Insurance is kicking my lads butt

We checked this out. On a Classic policy for a new driver driving a Beetle (old style) on a 3PFT policy limited to 4500 miles and parked overnight on a private drive, SDP and one address for commuting is less than £500

That is very reasonable and makes a mockery of the mainstream insurance rip off merchants. I would imagine a 17year old could cause as much damage to any other car in a Beetle as he could a Micra.

Great stuff… and the beetle should get far more appreciation from other drivers/peers than any Micra! Get a pre '72 and he wont pay for tax either!

On a personal note I do agree 100%!

Pre 72 are expensive and the tax saving is not so great anyway. We have tried all sorts of cars even Scimitars, TR7 etc for a laugh and they are all reasonable cheap in comparison to even a standard car.

I think we will probably get a nice Beetle/Mini etc and that way we should not lose anything on depreciation after a couple of years.

It will also give me another toy to play with.

I insured My Daugther on a 1.2 Clio, as the insured with both us adult as named drivers, as I did not wish to lose my noclaims on the 3000GT

Was supprised Quin quoted £425 full comp, although I understand it will increase to around £1200 when she passes , she will atleased have a year no claims built up

or two the way the theory test is going

Simon

Just been on the Collingswood site… what a great find…
240 quid for 3 months on my mondeo for my 17 year old son.

still a bit pricey for a year but far better than the 2800 notes my insurerer wanted

Glad to have helped.
