Hi I believe he has done a few for members but does not advertise this service as cant test them, mine got to a stage of banging in reverse seems a common problems but thatā€™s still going fine as far as i know so the bang in reverse prob ainā€™t the problem. Good luck Dave

So got a ECU from the ECU Doctor, It isnt 100% but a cheap way to see if my Engine ECU was the problem.

It diddnt work.

Still no reverse gear !

Just for those new to reading this i need help,

Car was stuck in 3rd only (Slaming into reverse) 1 year ago - i sent Gear box ecu off for repair - problem solved - 4 months later driving down the motorway and had miss fire followed by 3rd gear only then wierdly no reverse,
It makes the beeping nosie, Shows up on the dash and even lowers the Revs like it used to when you put it in reverse, it just dosent go anywhere ?
Ive had both ECUā€™S out and the Gear box looks fine (Pictures if you need)
The engine one had some liquid coming from one part (See pics above)
So this led me to the start of this message.
With ECU Doctor.

im stumpedā€¦ Do i now look to the gear box ?
Or send the Gear box ECU off again !

Its just if the gear box went i would of surely heard a clunk clunk bang or something on the motorway ?

Just seems electronic to me :confused:

Someone please help im at my witts end nowā€¦

Just a thought, have you changed the auto box oil and filter? I knew someone on here that had a problem with his auto box, did a few things to it but reconed changing the o&f help immensely. Not saying this is the problem, just trying to cover all angles.

I have checked the oil, But havent changed it ?

Could that stop it from engaging reverse ?

worth a try i supposeā€¦ Ive never changed the oil or filter before is it a local sorce oil and filter or special for GTOā€™S do you know ?

The oil can be obtained from Rob (@GSXRKID) or Opie Oils. However the filter is from Rob so might as well get the oil too :+1:

Hi All i think ive had enough now !

Gear box ECU has been checked by Avlec
Engine ECU has been checked by ECU Doctor

spoken to transmission specialist who said ā€œYeah bring it in but will probably be a overhaul on the gear boxā€¦ Ā£1300 mateā€

Im at my witā€™s end, iā€™m not a mechanic and havenā€™t got Ā£1300

Any ideas or should i just advertise it as it is and see what i get ?

Have you tried downloading the faultcodes from the tcu?

The links how to do it should be in the FAQ Might be something simple yet before jumping in too deep

Failing that a replacement gearbox will be far cheaper than a rebuild.

Alan gto that used to be on here did a lot of posts regarding auto boxes and what types were interchangeable and some of the problems matching what you have , itā€™s a bit of a mish mash with autos and not quite as simple as it should be :slightly_frowning_face:

Ask Him what you get for the Ā£1300, as most Auto gearbox places donā€™t do anything to them, they are just rip off artists

Hi All just kinda put the GTO under cover for now,
After some more investigation i feel confident its the clutch that is causing a problem ?

New clutch on a 91 Auto (Non turbo) ???

Dave i get your point, please send me club subscription and ill return it signed.

Im not giving up on this car yet any info on clutch repairs please let me know.
