Hi all, just to introduce myself and ask some initial questions.
Today I bought a non turbo 3.0 GTO from 1992 - a project car for my 18 year old son to work on over the next year or so (under my supervision).
It runs but doesn’t drive due to gearbox issues. Other than that it’s got some rust underneath but the engine seems quite strong. It’s quite tatty in places, but the price reflected that (£2k).
Is there a list of parts available (like brake discs/pad etc) or are the parts impossible to get hold of? The gearbox is beyond my ability so will need to go to a specialist to refurb (they have also asked if gearbox parts are possible to obtain)
We’re going to take our time and make it the best we can. Look forward to sharing some experiences and photos with you all as we go along.
Welcome to the group pads and disks ain’t to hard to get i even have a spare set or rear disks id sell just have to remember mk1 cars have smaller disks then the rest I belive. Gear box you need to speak to mad_luka on here he can probably get you sorted hope this helps

It’s gearbox bits I think we’re going to need initially. Is there anywhere that sells them? Don’t want to buy a second hand gearbox only to find it has issues too.
Welcome, just on the brakes, not all mk1 have the smaller, i would measure them if you can before buying, when I first got mine someone put the smaller discs on but I had the bigger brakes which lead to alot of fun getting the discs off the car, cant help with where to get them, but worth noting.
Euro3spreformance seem to say they have a kit, but never used them, so cant say what they are like

Is your car a non turbo GTO manual? If so, these were probably the rarest combination to find in the UK as a lot of the non turbos were automatics. Forget all about the gearboxes or parts from the twin turbo as they used totally different gearboxes made by Getrag and not Mitsubishi.
The non turbo manual gearbox code is W5M33 and this gearbox was found on other mitsubishi models like early Evos and some of the USA market cars under Dodge. Sadly, what this means is depending on what your gearbox needs it may prove quite difficult to find SOME replacement parts as they are pretty much either obsolete or crazy expensive custom aftermarket parts. In my opinion, the W5M33 gearbox is, sadly, a massive problem for GTO owners in the UK when it comes to repairs and future ownership.
Best thing is to get your gearbox place to strip the gearbox down and figure out exactly what it needs then get back on here and on the Facebook groups and googling those W5M33 parts.
I have a W5M33 gearbox part stripped as I donated the output shaft from it for a GTO owner as his had stripped the splines. As far as I know, the rest of the gearbox is good.
Hi yes it’s a 5 speed non turbo manual from 92. Are they all W5M33 or were there different variants?
Thanks very much for all the information and it sure looks like I’m going to struggle for parts. I called my local gearbox refurb place today and he is now saying he doesn’t fancy it because of the length of time we’ll be waiting for parts, so I think I’m best off trying to find a complete replacement (although he won’t fit it as he can’t verify it’s working, so going to have to take it elsewhere).
I assume a new clutch is easier to get hold of? I always like to put a new one in whilst it’s all apart.

Flywheels are impossible to find for the N/A Manuals. If you can find a machine shop to resurface it (even that was difficult for me) that should get a little bit more life out of it, but how many times you can resurface it, I’m not sure.
Wayne at JapAttack in Scunthorpe would probably be your best bet for work on your GTO, not sure he can/would rebuild a gearbox but pretty sure he would remove/refit and do a clutch job.
