1993 GTO - now sold :-(

With great regret, I am selling my car.

I’m currently putting together the usual list of what’s been done, extras and bad points but most of you know I’ve cherished this car for 8 years and it’s nearly standard, low mileage and in pretty good nick for its age.

I am painfully aware of what the cars are selling for at the moment so I shall be realistic.

Our new dog happily fits in the back with the seats down but that rules out extra passengers or luggage etc. so I’m getting something bigger.

Crikey Rob, I’m still reeling from Craig’s decision; Boo’s decision; Tony’s decision etc etc. Well, my very best wishes to you and the future. Yes, another absolute gem of a car hopefully going to a new owner, who will continue to afford the same standard of care to it as you have.

All the best fella,

Mike

Well, here is everything you could want to know:
[For some reason, the paintwork looks a little pink in these photos. But it’s not.]

1993 Mitsubishi GTO twin turbo. Red, with special reg. plate.

Imported by me and BestJapanCars in 2004 with odometer reading 82493km (51558 mi). Reading now (29 Oct 2012) 117037 (86102 mi)
Tax to end Feb 2013, MoT to Aug 7th 2013

Standard features (for those new to this car):
3 litre, V6, 24 valve engine with twin turbos, 0-60 mph under 6 seconds
Permanent 4WD with 4 wheel steering (surprisingly good on ice/mud etc)
Active front & rear spoilers
Active suspension and exhaust
Electronic climate control
Cruise control
PAS, servo brakes and clutch
Front fog lamps, high level rear fog lamp
Powered, folding mirrors
Powered driver’s seat
Driver’s airbag, adjustable headrests
Remote central locking
Lightly tinted front & rear screens

This is a late Mk1 with larger Mk2 brakes, stronger engine and 6-speed manual gearbox.

This car also has the large sunroof and internal cover, a turbo-timer, calibrated turbo boost gauge, uprated headlamps, lowered (~30mm) suspension giving superb cornering with minimal body movement, uprated brake discs and pads and reinforced flexible brake lines. All wheel suspension laser aligned for maximum performance and minimum tyre wear. 263 bhp on dyno three years ago.

Tyres: 235x45ZR17 all round, no more than 50% worn, on 5 spoke alloys
Spare wheel and tools have never been used.

New windscreen about 2 years ago
Replacement vented bonnet ‘bulges’. Originals included.
Radio cassette fitted with 8 CD changer.
Immobiliser and Tracker fitted, spare key and imm. fob.
Replacement leather gear stick gaiter in 2005
Excellent oil pressure, all emissions well within limits, runs beautifully
Dark, but legal, black tint to rear lights and front indicators
Original GTO floor mats

All import documents, purchases and service history included. 8 stamps in book.
Serviced every year, even though I’ve only been averaging 2,500 mi recently
54,000 mi main agent service with timing belt adjuster at indicated 85345
New cambelt and water pump etc at indicated 92508
GTO owners’ hand book plus service manual on CD
OBD1 to serial socket lead for data logging.
New springs fitted and undersealed in 2010
New radio aerial
Air con. service in 2011

Spare part worn front pads, original headlamps, cans of spray paint and colour-match polish all included.

Bad points:
It’s 19 years old. If you want perfection, a new car with matching looks and performance will cost about £60,000
There’s nothing needing urgent or expensive work but …
Some stone chips on bonnet and rear brake vents
Scuff to rear aero, where I closed the garage door on it
It’s so long since I last adjusted the mirrors the switches needs some contact cleaner
The rear aero has stopped moving – probably a new microswitch needed
Slight play in some joints and minor oil leaks as per MoT advisory
One of the 4 chrome tails pipes has broken off.
Direct Line are saying they can’t find some of the original tracker etc documents I sent them.
Minor wear to seat upholstery and vinyl behind driver’s seat.
Some corrosion to wheels – see photo of the worst one.
Lower gears can be stiff to engage until the gearbox has warmed up – just needs full clutch travel

No p/ex, time-wasters, tyre kickers or joy riders, thank you. You don’t get to drive it unless you can show Group 20 Fully Comp insurance.

I’ve been utterly honest here but I believe the car is worth £2,750 of anyone’s money and should give many more years of reliable and exciting ownership.

Another sad day to come.

Good luck with the sale guys, who ever gets this is onto a winner.

Worth that all day long Rob with the service history it has.

One day people will realise that some of these cars that are going circa £1500 are priced like that for a reason .

A well looked after members car at a sensible price , id be suprised if that stays around long .

All the best with the sale Rob 8)

Thanks guys.
I’m hoping to see the GTO’s replacement tomorrow. When I have it, I’ll let you know what it is. You’ll like it

Rob

I’m astounded! The only time I saw it was when I gave you a lift back from the dyno day in February 2009 and it was a clean car then too.

I thought you were a lifer like some of the other names.

Good heavens Rob, shock or what  There will be none of us left soon  , Good luck with the sale.

Julian.

Saddened to read this Rob

this still around

Unfortunately, yes.
I had an offer of £2,500 today. If he turns up with the cash within 7 days it’s his. It’s a steal at that price but I need the garage space for my new car.
If anyone makes a better offer I’ll keep it in mind in case he doesn’t cough up.

He did turn up, with the cash.
Sue and I watched sadly as he drove it away. End of an era.

Any members in the Havant area, you may see it around there.
