21........wanting GTO help:P

haha, i just rang insurance comp, they will insure me on a supra TT death machine, but not a safe 4wd, 4ws GTO, the cheek of the guy even asked me if i had ever drove one before:P

I’m 23 4 rs no claims and got fully comp protected with cover car for £1300 with Tesco’s they do it by post code mainly so age isnt such a huge yes or no. Well happy as all other quotes were £3500 ish  or a straight no.

I just turned 20 when I got my TT and was with Tescos paying £1800 fully comp, with 2 years no claims and I didn’t need a tracker.
I’ve now been insured over in germany for the past 2 years and am dreading coming back to the UK as I’ve been told I MUST have a traker to get insured with Tescos again and other insurance companys dont seem want to insure under 25year olds without paying over the odds

Myth i tell you… having just crossed the 24-25 barrier my renewal went up. The only sure fire way to get your insurance down is to phone EVERYBODY! I’m not joking call every insurance company in the phone book. Thats what i did and managed to get my qoute to an acceptable level.

Ben

I am 21, but use my nana’s policy, with tescos it’s only 750ish as a named driver- so find somebody old who has stopped driving an pretend it’s their car!

:? Which isnt a problem until someone that works at Tescos Ins happens to be checking out this site in own time or they think its a bit dodge that an 80 yr old female does that many miles a year in such a powerful car - not really the norm?? Dont mean to be rude but just go careful, especially if your going to be advertising it on a bulletin board for anyone to see…

Got a quote from admiral on a 3000gt and they want 1k full comp and 650 TPFT.

22 3years no claims and the car will be garaged.

good point adrian

but my nan is a little different from most to say the least, and is actually a competant driver who loves driving the gto(when I let her!)
she can’t afford the running costs of a car of her own so she is happy to let us share insurance so that she gets use of it (or chauffurefd by me) to do the shopping etc.

We also live together so I guess it’s a little different from the norm

Tried to get a quote from osbourns online, and they sent an e-mail back saying that they wont insure me (with a full clean license since i was 17) untill i am 30!!

im 22 with 4yrs no claims got mine with tesco for 1326 with mods  . Had to have a tracker but the car had one already!
If you are with/ thinking of going with tesco make sure you tell them what mods you do have, a guy on mkivsupra.net works for a accident inspection company and aparently tesco and directline are the worst companys for getting out of paying up because mods wernt listed which to be honest, i dont blame them for.

[R]zeeck - Is that an Import or 3000GT you got with Tesco cos I’m coming back to the UK next month and I’m also 22 with 4years no claim so it will be good to know roughly what i’ll be paying.
Also how much does a tracker cost to run a year?

Luke

Hi luke, i dont no if you are still interested in the tesco insurance or not but heres all the info i should have posted ages ago! (sorry! )

Insurance cost £1332 and thats for an import GTO (the proper version! ) not 3000GT. The tracker i have is the RAC Trackstar which costs £499.00 and the subsciption to that is either £33 quaterly, £120 annualy, or £325 for the life of the car. They also do a load of unit + lifetime subscription packages but ill be here all day listing them!

Hope that helps!

Pete

Hey everyone - new here, got loads of questions … To start off with:

Im having a nightmare with insurance quotes. 24 with 4 years NCB. Phones Tesco today, as online they only quote on the 3000GT (not the import) - the guy on the phone said that they only insure over 25s on the GTO ??

Are you guys above who are under 25 insuring import GTO’s, or UK spec 3000 GT’s ?

Hi faisal,

welcome to the boards,

I used to be insured with Tesco. I was 24 when I got insured over the net on a GTO TT. The only thing they specified was a tracking device. I didn’t know they had changed their policy.

Have a flick through the whole insurance section (it’ll take a while I’m afraid), but probably worth it.

Steve

j4se - what a great tip to reduce premiums! i just stuck my nan & grandad under a possible policy on a TT and it reduced the price by £300!!! I am 22 with 2YNCB and it came out at a grand FC with 250excess, 10month bonus policy thing with elephant.co.uk

having just sorted my insurance out for my gto, im well happy was a number of options with different cars but always liked gto so am getting mine on sunday, thankfully im 26 this year and have 5 years no claims,

so im fully compy for 640 quid well happy

Nice car Homer. Insurance is proving a nightmare. 4 years NCB, 24, in SE London / Kent - cheapest is about £1900 ! May have to wait till I turn 25 to buy one … :frowning:
