Some stupid bitch ran a red light last night and ploughed into the side of me. Just as well I caught her out of the corner of my eye at the last minute and managed to break just in time so most of the impact was on my wheel, N/S front wing and bumper. The damage is mainly cosmetic (as far as I know at the moment till I get underneath checked where she hit the wheel) but what’s the best way to go about this with regards Insurance? Some people I’ve talked to have been saying just give it to her insurance company to fix, get a hire car off them and sit back but what’s the chances of them putting it in the cheapest place rather than the best? Would I be better insisting it be fixed at a particular place (if so does anyone know one in Glasgow?!!) or do I have to go with whoever they choose?
sorry to hear about your car mate james is right leave it up to the insurance co and if you aint happy with what you get back send it back, thats what you pay through the nose for,hey where you about in the toon we could get together for a nosey, ive got to go away for a couple weeks in the mornin but might be delayed due to bad weather, be good to get a face to face wi another gto dude when your cars fixed ,good luck wi the car mo
Had mine fixed via a 3rd party’s insurance a couple of weeks ago. They had specific garages that I could take it to to get it repaired.
I wanted to take it elswhere. They didn’t have a problem with this. The only drawback was they “may have to send a guy down there” to make sure they were not ripping the insurance company off as it wasn’t one of their known garages. I just knew it was the best place around here to get the car repaired.
Anyways, they didn’t send anyone down in the end, and all was sorted lightning fast like, so if you know of a good garage the insurance company should accomodate your wishes.
Most insurance approved repairers should do a good job. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean all of them will meet your own approval. Find out where they want it sent, see what their work is like and make your own mind up. If you’re not happy with the insurance company’s recommendation, tell them so. If you find a good trustworthy company who can do a proper job, tell the insurance company that you want the work done there. Most companies are prepared to have some leeway in these circumstances, after all it’s not as if it’s your fault and even if it was, it’s unfortunately why we pay such extortionate fees annually.
Have a good look at repainted work from different angles and in good light, do this if you are looking at work from a bodyshop to gauge their quality. If the paint is full of runs and/or defects, don’t let them repair your motor.
Whatever the outcome, you must be happy with the end product but you don’t need to be taking it back half a dozen times to get that result.
I’m in the Southside mate near Hampden. Give me a shout when you get back and hopefully my car will be back on the road by then! Didn’t know there were any peeps on here from my neck of the woods so would be good to meet up.

Cheers Mark, if nothing else this’ll make me get my arse in gear and get all the niggly wee things sorted whicle I’m at it!! MY insurance company have told me to get quotes fthen they get an engineer to assess it then ‘try’ and claim it back from the other drivers insurance!! Meanwhile I have to pay the excess and if it’s not resolved before my insurance is due it could go down as a claim and might affect my NCB till it is!!! So basically I get penalised for an accident which had nothing to do with me
A mate has given me a couple of places who are apparently superb so I’ll insist on one of those.

Sorry to hear man, I would think like here in oz you just put the claim in with your insurance company and then they chase up hers… You shouldn’t have to worry bout any car hires either, or paying excess etc…
I mean thats what we pay insurance for at the end of the day right…
most insurers will let you go elsewhere but they wont get involved in any disputes if its not one of their pals, …
so choose your own, then you will have to fight to get things right if its not up to par.
stick with their pals and they will fight any problems/garrentee issues.
