Advice needed - viewing GTO at weekend

Hey Guys,
Last post didn’t seem to have gone on the forum…
So I’m still lurking in the background as I’ve still not got my dream car yet however I’ve seen one that’s caught my eye that I’m going to see at the weekend. I’ve read the buyers guide and have been looking for a few years now but am biting the bullet & have done my man (girl) maths and can in a roundabout way (or not) justify it (having to keep my vauxhall astra for my super short drive to work)

In short I want to know if anyone knows this car and is it legit as I’m worried it sounds good but may be a problem waiting to happen… Its a black MK1 GTO in a garage called Cheshire Performance in Manchester (it’s on their website)… Have read bad reviews on the garage about selling bad cars advertised as good and not honoring the 3 month warranty so any info or advice on this car or garage is much appreciated as I’m using all my savings and borrowing some too so hence my waryness… Its one of the few over a VERY long time that’s really caught my eye

Thanks in advance for any info you have on this car or garage or if it looks legit

Cheers

That is a lot of money, I know of a very tidy example for half that money somewhere up north. It also has been looked after and had a lot of money spent on it. (I am not sure how far north but I can get you an address if your interested. That is also a mk1 twin turbo.

cheers,
Neil.

That is not the cheapest or the most looked after version i have seen

There are plenty of others out there much nicer for less money

Dual Boost levels Barfffffffffff

Leave it alone if your going spend everything you have on one and these guy’s don’t honour warranties…

These cars cost wonga to run as if you dont have any spare cash left over from buying it… it could well end up in tears for you

Regards Rob

I did wonder about the price…seems a bit steep compared to others out there.
Yeah if you could get me the details that would be great! Thanks!

Thanks Rob, I know I thought that when I read it had dual boost levels!! Would just like a nice clean MK1 in red or black (or the blue but never see them) I think as time goes on I’m worrying there will be less & less decent ones out there, most seem to be spares/repairs :frowning:

Cheers
Ali

Hi Ali

Welcome to GTOUK , good luck in your search , the right car will be out there for you , asking on here will help you in the long run to avoiding making a mistake

Craig

I went to view that car and it looks far better in the pics than in the flesh. Not sure mechanically as I’m not the best person to ask for that advice. Also when I asked about the price they were offering me a whopping £50 discount.

There is one on Ebay (mK2) in Bolton which looks in far better condition and seemed ok when I drove it. Don’t take my advice though is I’m no mechanic. What put me off was lack of history and then decided against TT due to some prat putting in a fraudulent insurance claim against me so was struggling with the insurance.

Regards,
Kevin

Thanks Craig! Really appreciate everyones input and advice

Hi Kevin, Pft £50 is that it?! If it was a good one I was hoping to knock it down to £4000!
Is that MK2 the BR Cars one? Saw that too on eBay. I think for my first GTO I would really love the mk1 as I had the photo on my wall when I was younger so it’s got to be the old skool!
I have little knowledge when it comes to mechanics so am turning to you guys who know these cars! So your advice wether you’re ‘no mechanic’ is still appreciated…you’ll still know more than me!

Cheers

Ali

Yes it is BR It was at £3400 and is now £2900 I think and I do think you could get it cheaper than that. Although not much in way of history that they showed me but they said they had some. I understand the Mk1 thing though. One will turn up Don’t rush

Hello and welcome to the forum!!
There are plenty of cars out there, no need to spend massive money unless its REALLY perfect

Thanks, I know but it’s so hard not to rush when the majority of MK1’s that come up are not so good!..I will have one soon  (positive thinking!)

Hey Kevin! Ended up buying that GTO from Cheshire Performance! Seemed a good car, it got a good look over by my boyfriend who its quite good with cars, not GTO’s though but it’s more than my knowledge, he’s had R32 skylines imported & said it felt better than some of those hes paid alot more for. I took it down the M60 & noticed the breaks had a judder so they are sorting the breaks, giving it an oil change, new wiper blades because they were rubbish & a full valet because it was in need of a clean! Made up now just cant wait till I can pick it up!!

Good stuff bet you can’t wait. It was dirty when I went to view it and chucking it down although the car was inside and yes it does sound good. I wanted a black Turbo and ended up with a white auto !!
Did you get the workshop manuals that were with it ? I had some and sold them when my first car seized wish I’d kept them now. Keep them invaluable piece of info.
Were not too far away near sunny Blackpool so if you need any help give us a shout and we can both stand there looking confused.

Hehe grab the good ones while you can! I was fixated on a red manual but they were all half dead so this one was meant to be! Aaah right Blackpool, that’s good to know thanks! Hehe yeah I’ll be looking just as clueless! Is there a GTO specialist by us for a service or someone in the know with these cars?

Not sure sorry just been back on scene a week, sure someone else will advise though. I got my car from Graham at Autoworld or is it Grahams GTO Parts now, anyhow it Is near Leeds, he is a great source for parts at good prices and seems to know these cars.

Kevin

Cheers Kevin I’ll look him up when the time comes
