Hey Rob
I received the y-pipe as promised; however, I’m not happy with it. As far as I can tell, it’s not really the right size to fit in the engine bay in place of the original plastic pipe.
I measured the distance from the flat of the plenum end to the edge of the pipe (ie the distance from plenum to the battery side of the pipe) and it’s about 150mm. The original plastic pipe is about 140mm. Not a huge difference…until you factor in that the plastic pipe goes OVER the plenum inlet, which obviously the alloy pipe can’t do…which means if you try and fit the alloy pipe flush with the plenum (which by the way would mean cutting down the piece of hose supplied), the whole things sticks out over 1.5 inches more to the left, which in my engine bay clashes with the battery somewhat
Here’s some pics which hopefully show what I mean:

So I can’t fit this pipe :(. What makes this even more frustrating is that the seal on my original pipe isn’t getting any better, and now I’m struggling to clamp my original pipe back on effectively
So now I’m stuck with an alloy y-pipe that doesn’t fit, and a plastic one that won’t stay on under boost…and I’m supposed to be driving 300 miles tomorrow…
Needless to say I want to return this pipe, and I’ll give you a call sometime this week to sort it out. I guess you get what you pay for, but even most of the cheap ebay ones look narrower than this and thus look more likely to fit…
Gav (disappointed and frustrated)
time for a battery in boot relocation.
Not if the poor sod’s got a 300 mile drive tomorrow…
Hi Gavin,
I am sorry that this Y pipe has caused you problems today and you are more welcome to return it for a full refund.
These were sourced from a reputable US Company, who has sold 1000’s of them in America, so I would have thought they would have fitted without any problems and they assured me that they would.
We normally test fit everything we sell and make sure it comes up to our very high standards of quality, just because we have found out that some times things are not quite right.
When we sold this Y pipe to you, we had not been able to test fit the item and for that I am sorry.
I will check the rest of our stock and if the prove to be like yours they will be thrown in the bin where they may belong.
I have resisted to source items like the those on E- Bay as they usually prove to be a load of crap……But as this club loves stuff mega cheap, So I relented and sourced some only to find it as usual it’s crap and I got burnt too….
I think I will continue to supply stuff that may not be cheap, but it will be quaity and will fit correctly and leave the crap to E Bay
Cheers Rob
Hey Rob,
Thanks for the reply. Don’t worry too much, these things happen and you sourced these pipes with the best intentions…it might be that these pipes do fit ok on some vehicles, but I just don’t understand why someone would make the pipe to the dimensions they have. It makes no sense!
I may just go for the DNP pipe and be done with it. I wasn’t really trying to save money, it just seemed silly to buy something so much more expensive if something cheaper did the job…ah well!
I’ll give you a call in the week and we’ll sort it out
Cheers again, I appreciate your sympathetic response 8)
Gav
That’s certainly got a lot more throw from the plenum that my ali one used to have.
You’re not joking Ian, They are quite a lot bigger!!!
So we will be marketing these as an upgrade for people who want more performance and have the battery in the boot…
Why did i buy so many Rob
