Anyone got a Merc? Who insures you? +Major RANT!

Bought Alice a Merc yesterday which we collect today, so I needed to do the insurance thing.

Got a quote from Norwich Union - £793
Got one from Tesco - £450

Ok, great Tesxo is good and that is who she is insured with, should just need to transfer the policy and pay the difference (her 106 is £238 so just £112 to play plus maybe an admin fee).

Rang to xfr the details and they wanted to charge an additiononal £398

Explained that we got a quote on line, she checked it and all the details were correct. “But I still can’t change the xfr price”. :x

So I quickly do my sums and it works out cheap for us to cancel her 106 policy and take out a new policy with them online! Plus we would get £168 refund on her existing policy! How f’in retarted is that!!!

So, can anyone point me in the direction of a good company for a Merc?

Thanks
Mark

I used to pay about £700 with direct line for my BMW 530D

Try Sky, they told me they will extend the member discount to immediate family/second cars.

Also, Privilege are quite good.

I think Direct Line are a bit up themselves now. I would try Norwich Union Direct.

I am now back with them on my Group 16 Bora after three years. By far cheapest.

BMW 530d should be the same group as I can have one in the Bora (verified by doing so).

That is very, very interesting on Sky, but personally I haven’t found Privelige any good.

What type of Merc is it? That will make more of a difference…ie A140 to SLK 55 AMG :?
Have you tried Merc themselves, they have a 10% discount if you buy online, thats assuming you splashed out and bought a new one. If you didnt and bought second hand why dont you just use confused.com ?
lala

Using confused.com was useless - many places arent included/wont quote etc etc unless you go to their own site. even then its still best to ring them and haggle.

Privilige are useless too - the moto of “we guarantee to beat your renewal” is a load of crap - they beat my renewel by £19, i beat it by £200 by ringing around.

Depending on what model it is, you may be better off going with a specialist that deals in exectutive vehicles??

This is all on my 306, which aint exactly in the same league.

I am suprise you found that J@mes, I used confused this year ,and it saved me £200.

I guess they only do uk cars

And was £350 cheaper than Sky

We just had a bust up with Tesco too
Carisma Insurance due on the 31st May, tax expires same day.
They don’t send out the certificate until the 1st June, so what can we use to Tax the car with :?:
Can’t do it before the 1st as the current certificate doesn’t cover for whne the tax starts…

After a major rant with them, they have been binned, and we had changed to the AA and it’s £72 cheaper 8)

They were not flexible at all, and I hate listening to Elevator music for 15mins

Marty

Do they not send you a cover note that you can use Marty? |That is truely hopless!

Cheers,

Ben.

No, apparently they no longer issue cover notes
Refused to send out the cetificate early, despite us been on an automatic renewal, and we didn’t want it to start cover early or anything, not asking for anything more than we had paid for…C%$P
I was fuming when I came off the phone!!!

So…Took out insurance with the AA, and the car was off the road for 2 days while we waited for the AA p/work to come through.

Throughly p*&%ed off with Tesco, and will be changing the house insurance from them as well.

It is a Merc S Class with the AMG bits (brakes, wheels, engine map ect).

I tried loads of places on the net yesterday and I couldn’t find a better price than Tesco’s, the closest I could get was £200 more.

So I took a new policy out with them as I needed insurance to pick the car up.
As it turns out, I got 3 days complimentary insurance from the dealer - Nice touch but it would of been even better if they told me in advance!

We picked the car up at 2pm yesterday and Alice followed me back in her little 106. God it is so nice to drive! Kind of brain dead driving compared to the GTO but silky smooth power and it has more toys than NASA. The aircon seats are extreamly nice in the hot weather.

Dead chuffed with it despite all the hassel buying it and the Tesco tossers

I’ve just got to sell some cars now so we have some room on our drive, so if anyone want’s a nice little 106 (one owner from new) then get in touch.

Heres a couple of crap pics of the brum brum (took in the dark just incase if got nicked overnight!)

Thanks to everyone who helped out!
Mark

Looks very nice Mark.
Glad you got it sorted
