At last i have GTO

HI guys, my name is Tommi, for every day I’m a tattoo artist, but from years i’m fascinated with mitsubishi cars. i own few already( two galants and one starion). it is not my first time on this forum, but this is my first GTO i bought .
I own this car already about 2 months, and so far iam super happy with this car, i use it every day to drive to tattoo studio.

My Car probably was know on this forum from previous owner, but i’m not 100% sure.
This is Black Gto mk3 1997, (previous owner said that it is a limited edition)
Car have good points and few bad points as well,
car is powered by twin turbo engine, previous owner provided me file with big amounts of bill which was spent on it.
Turbos are original but they are just after rebuild, also engine have bill for forged parts, and some rebuild too, it also have a guarantee.
Gear box also was after service. interior is made with custom leather with black and white colour, even floor carpet was changed too.
car have dyno-test print which shows 323 horsepower, but owner said that there is decat 3 inch exhaust system, unfortunately end of the exhaust is still 2 inch size.
car have no any scratches, and interror have no sign of dammage

bad points :

  1. 4ws system is sometimes annoying, sometimes it makes felling that car is “wavy” on the quick road, i know that 4ws can be eliminated by “dedicated kit” probably i will do it in future.
  2. sometimes when i stop my car after journey, and few minutes later i wish to drive again, then car have bad acceleration, and can shake while iam tryin to drive, looks like there is some problem with air/fuel mix when engine is hot or with hot air goin into intake.
3.third problem is recently power sterring start working hard, i found that there is oil loose from system.

I’ve done fe thousand miles already with no any bigger problem ,I really like this car, but also i have another question.
Is there is any insurance company which can be recommended for GTO? iam not very happy with my curent insurance company.

hopefully soon i will be able to record some movies with my GTO, i bought go pro and good dslr camera ,in free time i will try to “cut” some nice video clip
also i wish to visit some events where people with other GTO’s can meet each other.

Welcome to the Club and congratulations on your purchase.

If after you first restart your car, it runs fine until you start to drive down the road, then it sounds like you have ethanol added to your gas for emissions purposes like we do over here. These cars were designed before that became popular. If this is the case then you are experiencing vapour lock in the fuel rails from the warm engine vaporizing the ethanol.

I had this problem in my car but fortunately the solution is simple. For some reason our cars were designed to start with 12v applied to the fuel pump and then drop to 6v moments later. That is why it initially runs fine after restarting your warm car then runs like crap a few moments later. When the power supply to the fuel pump drops to 6v it doesn’t have the power to overcome the vapour lock. The solution is to hot wire the fuel pump so it always operates at 12v. My mechanic did this in 10 minutes in the fuse box under the bonnet and I haven’t had a problem since.

Hi and welcome, one tidy motor you got there loving the wheels and lether  .matt

That’s a great looking car you’ve got there. Welcome to the club…

That does look nice, welcome to gtouk.

Neil.

Welcome back Tommi and that is one good looking car you have got. Hope you get your few problems sorted soon.

how about recommended insurance company? is there is any good for Japanese cars where price is acceptable? i have beed in "direct line ", but they always askin about trackin device, and i havent got any option to choose ( that there is no trackin device)

ps. i drive this car to work every day, and i don’t drive fast at all, and average fuel consumption is around 14 litres for 100km, is this a normal ? just checkin, with my starion which is really fast as well i can go down to 8 litres if i will try  but i understand, GTO is 4x4 and heavy

Hi,

Try the comparison sites. Every time I searched for the 3000gt Admiral /Elephant came up cheapest and I have no tracker fitted. Just insured the 3000GT fully comp for £250

On the GTO being an import it was a bit more expensive even though it was a non turbo. But still got quite cheap quotes.

Also try phoning sky/ footman James etc

Chris

Hi fella welcome to GTOUK 8)

Try A plan insurance, i gave them a bell after GSXRKID gave me the nod about them they have insured my car all mods declared far cheaper than ive found in the past . (pm rob he may give you his contacts number )

4ws can seem a bit strange untill you get used to it

Nice car by the way 8)

Craig

Footman James are always best for me

welcome to the club looks like a nice example, nice to see one with nice interior simon

if anyone could explain me this, few things still stay for me unclear: i still drive in UK withm my international EU drivin licence, is this makes a big difference with insurance quote when people are using full UK licence , or full EU licence?

and also i dont understand really how no claims discount works here, in poland i own 3 cars, and my discount is 65% (max available) for total time of driving career without any collision, and here in UK, i used once this paper to prove of my discount for insuring honda civic last year, and now i found that they don’t accept those discounts on second car ( gto) why is like that?? this documents prove that last 14 years i had no collisions or any small damages. in poland i could use my discount for every single car. its quite shocking when i see that someone can insure full comp gto around 300-400 pounds… when my offers starts from over 2500 pounds now. two months my gto was insured in direct with discounts (1200) but now they told me that is canceled because i cant use my discounts )

:////////

In my experience, you can only ever use no calims bonus on one car. I have me daily driver which I have 5 years no claims on (I use it for business cover, protected no claims and 30,000 miles per year) but my GT is on a classic policy from Footman James which doesn’t use a no claims scheme anyway.

My guess is that the whole UK insurance policy scheme is based on your time driving without claims on the UK roads. If I were to move to Poland, would I instantly get 5 years no claims discount on my insurance from my time driving in the UK?

if you will prove your discount on paper, it will be transferd to your new insurance in poland. so in uk they check how long previous car was insured with your name in UK, i need to try that footman james, but how car like gto can be treated as a classic?? its still fairly young car …
i bit stressed now, iam addicted to drive this GTO and i cant do it today

few questios
why i have limited access on this forum if my profile is already registered ?

also very important
is there is any recommended GTO or mitsubishi garage/ specialist recommended by other users in greater manchester ?
I can see online there is mitsubishi specialist in denton called mitsiland ?
any one can recommend them?

are there any active users from greater manchester , if so , any one do any local car meetings?

Hi and welcome to GTOUK, full access is gained via a subscription ( £25 ) to become a full member, One of the best ways to meet other members is to attend one of the biggest events on our events calendar JAE you can find it in the Future Events, As for a Mitsubishi garage in your area you will have to wait for someone else to back with that information, I personally use Eurospec in Guildford Surrey, a fair way to travel but would not trust anyone else with my pride and joy. Good luck with your search.

Julian.

I would like to post information about my car, as far it looks great from outside, and the list of bills and performance parts was super impressive when i bought it, i sterted having some minor problems which it, and it was getting more serious so i gave car to the service, to check and inspect it.
well main problem was crack on manifold

bill says that full exhaust was purchased in amber performance, quite expensive DN manifold, down-pipe and cat replacement, all worth 1500pounds… manifold, and all pipe work looks like was done in some scrapyard parts, i couldn’t see it first, because it was all covered with this temperature resistant tape, my mechanic send photo to amber and ask them if this manifold and down-pipe is their job, but they said it is not DN manifold. well that was first unpleasant message.

second thing was, condition of car under, it is 1998 car and it is all RUSTED ( i also own starion turbo from 1989, and galant turbo from 1990 and they are in much much better body work condition) . the rusted holes are so big so you can stick fingers thru them, and this car supposed to be mint condition. it look like it was parked few year in the ocean, and corral reef starts growing under.

then i have also bills for performance cams , forged pistons, crank… well. i just received video from the mechanic, and he said, this is total standard engine, there is nothing upgrated there.

well big disappointment, because i was happy to spent more money on the nice car, with professional upgrades, but it is all standard and it not well condition. apart outside look, which is great.

Your the 3rd person i have heard of buy a so called highly modded car only to find out its totally standard !!

I feel for you bud i really do…

Cheers Rob

Do you still have the advert? Is it possible to contact trading standards? Can they do anything?

Doesn’t help but its quite possible it has had all that work done on a previous engine which has blown and a replacement has been fitted .

Any info on where the work was carried out , the garage might be able to shed some light on its history for you
