Brake query

Rob, just had the Mk2 calipers and DBA 4000 disks fitted on the front. One small query that my mechanic friend raised. The pad (from the Mk 1 caliper - Ferodo 2500 from you) doesn’t go to the edge of the new disk. Should it? Is there another size pad I should be using now? He told me that it will score the disk eventually… Could you throw any light on this for me?
Thanks
Pat.

Hi Pat i replied in your other post regarding brakes.

But what you have is normal and will not cause you any problems.

Cheers Rob

Thanks Rob. You’ve put my mind at rest…

my dba - ferodo combination do this also! not had any issues yet!!

Pat,

Am I understanding you right, have you fitted old pads to new discs?

    Yus sir - have I been a bad boy? Haven’t driven it yet (well, a couple of miles from Martyn’s workshop to my house) - is there still hope? :?
You’re going to tell me off aren’t you and tell me to fit brand new ones and not be a cheapskate…

No I’m going to tell you it is very bad practice and will accelerate abnormal the wear on your new discs because it will wear unevenly due to the uneven surface of the old pads. Look at it this way; what did your old discs look like? That’s what the pads will have worn to match. They will now be wearing your new discs to match.

Not only that most manufacturers will not warranty new discs that have been fitted with old pads.

At least tell me he faced them off before fitting?

It’s not a case of being cheap, just doing it right.

Russ

Yes, he did face them off. He even advised me to fit new pads, but in my ■■■■■■ minded eagerness to get it all back together I insisted he put the old ones back…
New pads are on the way
Sorry, headmaster, it won’t happen again…
