Buying advice

Hi guys its that time in my life (32 years young) that I want to buy a car that I can call my baby, my friend has recently Bought a supra TT and im currently very interested in the 3000/gto so first thing I would like to know is do I look for a uk spec or jap? Pros and cons?.
Thanks for any help

Hi and welcome to GTOUK, 3000GT is the UK car so has spent all its life on our gritted/salted roads but has slightly larger turbos and comes with manual gearbox as standard, On 1/4 mile runs it would be hard to tell them apart speed wise, GTO is the import so tends to be in far better condition rust wise, These come in Manual for the Twin Turbo and both Manual and Auto for the N/A, I have the import TT but that is what came along when i was looking, just remember the MK1 is 20 odd years old so whatever you look for, read the buyers guide & if poss take someone with you that knows what they are looking at

Hi and welcome to GTOUK

The 3000gt seems to attract cheaper insurance premiums compared to an equivalent GTO , as Julian says comes with slightly bigger turbos too .

The advice I would give is buy on condition really , it was always a joking point that the 3000gt rusted more than the GTO , however some of the GTO’s have been in the country a long time now and if not undersealed are suffering their own tin worm problems , I know of quite a few cars both GT’S and GTO’s that have had to have a fair bit of welding .

Have a look at the buyers guide on this site and take your time looking for cars , don’t let your head rule your heart with the first good looking car you see , an impulse buy that hasn’t been properly looked at could prove costly and ruin your experience of these great cars

Nice one guys so its only really rust and insurance that could be a difference, other than that its just all about condition? I take it the guides will tell me know rust spots and things to watch out for etc. I dont want to rush but feel like once the sun starts to come back the prices will shoot up!

Hello and welcome to the club. The buyers guide has loads in it but please keep them all in mind looking for a car. I have a GT 97 and has got 2 bits of rust but welded an sealed now. If you have any cars you want to look at don’t hesitate to ask in here. U ever know who’s local
