Cambs / Norfolk / Suffolk meet?

In another thread, LeeGTO suggested that as there’s a few of us around Cambs/ Suffolk, we could have a meet up & chat

I would be up for it, not too bothered where, maybe find a central popint from those wanting to come

I’m in march PE15. Times / Days don’t matter to me if I have a bit of notice I can work it.

Anybody else ??

Depending where and when I might be interested. the Essex meet is a good one but quite some distance from Norwich, especially of a weekday evening.

Why not give us a look at a Big Power meet.

                 Dave

Don’t think i qualify as one of the “bigpower” cars Dave, mine is just a standard one & tbh I want to make it more standard than it is

chazzyB used to run a meet in peterborough!

A standard GTO qualifies no prob  To be honest we,ve tried getting get togethers before without much success, there’s normally 3 or 4 GTO’s (mine, JC, Turbomart and a couple of others).

                       Dave

Had the same probs with a yank meet in this area Dave, few bothered & the ones that did came once.

I think a regular meet is a waste of time, but maybe a one off or the odd one here & there would be a chance for a few of us to look over each others cars.

We would be up for a meet as we are not too far from you.
If you want to meet up anytime give us a pm.

There ya go, that’s a start

I reckon Boo might come too, he’s only near Ely.

I will definately be there and there’s millers old GTO in Bury as well who I’m sure would come.

We have a good location in Bury St Edmunds to meet which is used for the Honda revolutions meet as its a big car park with a subway/KFC just a few yards away, also fairly central between the norwich and cambridge side of things.

Let me know what you guys think and we’ll sort out numbers.

Anyone?..lol

Well there’s at least 3 or 4 of us

Suffolk (Bury ?), March, Huntingdon all close enough, it’s just turbomart out on a limb in Norwich

I can go in any direction, maybe somewhere near Cambridge makes sense ???

ideas anyone ??

As James said, I used to run a meet but found it a waste of time, the only regular people that used to turn up was Mick and Tracy work permitting. The location was good, the food excellent and reasonably priced, the cars had cameras pointed at them and they even let us park in all the disabled bays at the front. The owner even let us use the private bar upstairs where we didnt get disturbed. You can only flog a dead horse for so long.
I have been to the Essex meet a couple of times to find out if they do anything different and also to the Nottingham meet and they were all on the same par so I guess the members in these areas are a bit more dedicated.
I even suggested an inter area bowling competition to give us something different to do but again, no response so if you can get anything going, then good luck to you

I know exactly what you’re saying Chazzy, I had the same with a yank meet.

Not sure about everyone else, but I was thinking more of one meet to say hello to other locals, look at the cars & then maybe another meet later in the year. I think one a month becomes too much ?

Perhaps we could get together and try starting it up again, maybe a different night (I used to do it on a wednesday which seemed to be convienient when I first asked what would be the best night) If I remember rightly, Rob at Evil Empire got nominated as something like in charge of all the meets in the south east area and in about nine or ten months that I was doing it, I never heard from him once to see how it was going or give any input and to my mind to do something like this takes commitment which I find lacking in this club.
A few functions are put on which basically are a jolly for buisness owner/members.
I worked my arse off and ran around like a blue arsed fly at the end of the season last year at the kent show organising and seting it all up and supplying most of the gear (yes I got a few quid to go toward feeding those that did turn up) but what pissed me off most is that not one committee member attended and because of my forethought, we had the best stand at the show.
Those that did attend had a real good time and really apreciated it but again , not a single thank you from any committee members.
As far as I am concerned, the club has gone down hill from when I first joined and it needs some input from fresh faces.
There are countless owners in this area, not all of them members (I even got non members to attand my monthly meets to build the numbers up) and the majority only have to use two main roads to get to an amicable meeting place ( the A1 and the A14) give or take a couple of side road miles and to get a place where the cars are safe and we are welcome is a big bonus.
I am sorry to sound off a bit but I dont agree with “Its them or us”. As a club everyone has a talent that could be chipped in.
I am not the only one that has had trouble getting members to join in on something but it usually boils down to “who suggests it as opposed to what is suggested”.
Maybe I am just getting old and cynicle but at the end of the day, I am willing to meet up and have a shandy and I am sure I could get a couple of others to take a drive out provided it dont clash with work so when and where would you suggest if you dont want to try the venue that I used?

Also I think I read a recent post of someone who is a member that ownes a pub in northampton somewhere unless that is a bit far for a first meet, I am open to suggestions
