Ok i have searched like mad through all the babble but this is what i need to know…
I have a mint Mk2 i picked up for £29, FSH and 1 years mot !! I want to use this a smoke around and park up the GTO for a while. I just cant get a sensible qoute of 3rd party only on the golf as i use all my NCB on the GTO.
What i would like to know is… Can i drive the Golf on the extension of ‘drive any other car lent to me’ story , or does the car itself need to be insured for any other driver to use ?
I simply refuse to pay £280 for 3rd party insurance for a £29 car   , I would rather stick it in the Thames
i thought the car has to be insured by some1… i know i cant drive any other car (cos im 24) but once 25 i can only drive a car that is insured by at lease some1 ?
Thats exactly what im trying to find out, can i drive it because im insured on any car 3rd party…OR does the car have to have insurance by ‘SOMEONE’ and i can drive it 3rd party on the back of my policy?
I had a friend have the same problem as this
If the car is registered in your name you cant drive this on the back of
your gto policy
It needs to be insured on its own unless you register it in someone elses name then you will be able to drive it third party if you are fully comp
I am fully aware i cant drive it off the back of my insurance if the car is in my name, But if Emma is the registered owner…will she have to insure car and then i will be allowed to drive it ?
I was posed with a similar situation a year or two ago and from what information I gathered this is how I see the situation:
You can drive any car tft etc (if your insurance allows it), BUT that car must be insured by someone, somewhere. You can not drive a car that is not specifically insured by someone as their car.
Put another way, if you owned ten cars but only insured one, you would not be allowed to drive the others on your one policy unless they were individually insured. It is the car that is insured and not you the driver - unlike motorbikes from what I understand.

This is not correct.
