Cheap boost gauges?

Anyone got review on using cheap ebay boost gauges, and describe how accurate they are?

i want to get a gauge in the gto but i don’t understand how some branded companies can charge so much more for a vacuum gauge.

Any personal recommendations?

thanks tom

I use depo racing there about 50 quid it’s like a medium priced and it’s OK works fine.i wouldn’t recommend the 20 or 10 quid ones, but I agree with you some are 150 plus and a bit pricey (guess you pay the extra for the brand name as more than likely are made in the same factory by the same people)
I use depo for oil, water, boost etc the quality of them seems OK for me.
Some might disagree

Jerry
I buy them of xenon UK on ebay

Ebay ones are fine I can see no difference in the way they are made other than looks, there are very few parts in any gauge, boost is just a mechanical vac system temp ones I have checked to be spot on with logger (although sensors are cheap and fail so better changing that) I have egt temp too and that works well.
Hope that helps
Dave.

The main difference is in the accuracy of the gauge

If you not tuning the car to nunth degree and running the engine on the edge where even a small change will melt the engine then a cheaper one will be fine.
If you have a tuned engine however then you need the accuracy of the expensive ones

The HDI ones are actually very accurate and do not cost the earth either

Cheers Rob

Cheers, ill have a look at what everyone has recommended. :relaxed:

The main thing i’m trying to find in that case is the design. Just want a real clear simple one, seen a few that doesn’t show negative numbers i like but are negatives numbers important in showing how the car is running??

Alright Tomy,

By negative do you mean where it says -10 -20 -30 Hg ? If so that is recording vacuum, when your engine is not in boost its sucking air in via its displacement, this is vacuum, I think its pretty normal on most boost gauges. I bought a cheap 9 quid turbo gauge off ebay, lasted about 5 mins. But it gave me a good idea about what was going on. I subsequently replaced it with a cheap 15 quid boost gauge which I expect to last maybe a bit longer.

When I eventually turn up at your house, we can hook up mine to your car and see what it reads, if it doesn’t die from cheapness in the process
