Considering buying this GTO as my weekend car

Hello there all, new member of the site.

I have been after a 90s sports car for a while, and took a liking to Mitsubishis mainly thanks to the old Gran Turismo games on the Playstation in the 1990s growing up - I imagine a similar story for other owners too. I’m really enamoured with the idea of a GTO and spotted this NA example on AutoTrader, and I wanted to share and see if any owners have any advice based on the advert/photos included.

I’m not well versed from a mechanical perspective, so beyond very basic maintenance I would have to rely on garages to perform services and more extensive work - curious if this would be a dealbreaker for the NA Auto version or is more of a problem for the turbo variants.

It would purely be a weekend car, and I’d be interested in attending some club meetups if I did get the car or another GTO, so I certainly wouldn’t be daily driving it or putting huge miles on the car.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

I dont think auto or twin turbo will make a difference to the garage that’s working on theses cars, I just find alot of garages only want quick and easy work, I find it hard for some places to do work on my audi a8 because it has a 3.0tdi engine.

I will say that while the engine looks complicated, it is very simple, just tight is spaces and as a club we do help out and give the best advice for theses cars.

Welcome to this amazing Club, Steve.

Members of this Club will gladly help and advise about any potential purchase you may wish to make.

Professional maintenance for our cars is a little harder - but not impossible - to find nowadays, and many garages are not quite so familiar with them. Because of this, many of us maintain our cars with the help of other members, and by referring to the Workshop Manual (on a flash stick), which can be purchased from our Club shop.

The advertisement shows a very decent looking example, and I hope you may be able to get a closer look and be able to make an informed decision.

Ideally you’ll need as much history about the car as possible, including important maintenance issues, such as cambelt replacement details, lubricant changes etc.

And, if you haven’t read it already, take a moment to read “The Buyers Guide” on this Forum.

Good luck with whatever you decide,

Mike

Thanks chaps for the messages, just arranging to check out the car in person at the weekend and hopefully getter a better idea of the condition and paperwork available - as from the ad there seems to have been a large amount of work already done on the car recently.

Hoping to check back in with some good news soon!

I have had 3 of these watch the sills and front floor pan , , TT S are much more fun if not thrashed , your choice!

So why is he or she selling it , what’s the mileage etc , this is an expensive car to maintain if it in bad condition, not many mechanics will look at them as they all want an easy life ., graham
