Direct line..... dont you just love em

phoned up direct line who im insured with for a quote on a GTO TT (said 92 for argument sake) the quote was good £91.82 on monthly payments (well i thought it was, im 25 with 7yrs no claims).
however to be insured you have to have a cat 1 or 2 alarm on it, a tracker and an immobiliser. Do mk 1 GTOs have immobilisers as standard though? and if not how much am i looking at? the frigging tracker is £449 + £325 for life of car!!!
unhappy craig

Had the same thing with Tesco insurance

R A C are doing a tracker for £299 plus fitting, for an extra £6 a month you get some kind of speed camera warning, I havent looked into it too far yet

I was with Direct Line last year. They sent me a renewal with the same price and after shopping around I went with Admiral who charged £30 more but do not want a tracker or alarm or immobaliser and that £10k miles not 7k.

There are plenty of other companies who don’t insist on a tracker.

Are you sure you’re covered for theft? Not having to have an alarm or immobiliser sounds really strange. I was told I didn’t have to have one but I wouldn’t be covered for theft.

Yes, I’m sure but by the time It all worked out it cost me £120 more, not £30 more (but they knocked £80 off the other car - fiesta - insurance)

I’m with direct line and they said the same to me, if there in no tracker or at least cat 2 alarm then the car isn’t covered for theft.

Didn’t bother me as I was fitting a Cat 1 and a Tracker anyway.

Try calling A-Plan at their Thatcham office. I’m 25 with 5 yrs NCD, and got an identical price to Direct Line (£1010). I have a tracker anyway, but A-Plan didn’t care. Only reason I didn’t go with Direct Line is because I used to work for Zurich insurance, and heard soooo many horror stories about Direct Line’s claims service…

Adrain Flux don’t mind either.

32, 9 NCB, GL postcode, (import), TT = £625. Needed to have CAT 2 Thatchams app. alarm and immobiser.

immobilisers on their own start from about £40 - if you need someone to fit it I guess you’ll have to add a bit onto that. Budget for about £100, I reckon. Look in the yellow pages for the mobile fitters, its a bit more convenient. Better still have a go yourself - what could possibly go wrong.

All the best mate,

Jim
