Getting herself back on the road

Well boyos, haven’t posted on here in years.
I am going to put herself back on the road after about 5 years sitting up. Have a few bits that will need doing but nothing major I don’t think, we’ll see after the NCT. Insurance was the biggest nightmare.

Spent the day clearing the underbody of rust a few weeks ago with the help of my paps (that’s him in some of the before and afters pics uploaded).

One thing that I’ve never liked about the car visually are the way the rims dont fill the arches, particularly the rear arches.
I think a set of twin spokes (example uploaded) would look good and I’d like to a set that fill out the arches a bit more, 18’s, maybe 19’s, but don’t want the car lifted off of the ground too much either. I’m also a bit worried about the weight of the car on aftermarket rims.

Any recommendations on rims, sizes, manufacturers, suppliers and tyre sizes (wider the better) are welcome.

No doubt I’ll be asking a lot of questions over the next few months as there are a few issues the car has that I remember before I parked her up.

Car Summary
95 GTO TT Manual.
Imported to UK in 200x.
Imported to Ireland (by me) 2009.
Completely standard all round.

Known issues.
ABS light comes on and doors unlock after driving forward about 5ft (possibly one if the ABS sensors).
Pops out of reverse gear.
Smokey when starting up and when you put the boot down (can’t remember the colour).
When putting the foot down from a standing start theres hesitation and a bit of jolting before it smooths out. ‘Normal’ acceleration is fine.

Superficial work.
New rims.
Respray.
Tappets (will do the timing belt while I’m at it).
Turbos (if they are causing the smoke).
Leather seats (have cloth at the mo).
Rear strut brace.
Modernise the speedo a bit, changed to white dials and silver a few years ago but not sure about anymore(photo uploaded).
Front dam was a bit dinted amd damaged, a heat gun a fresh lick of paint has that sorted already. Just getting some brackets made now as the originals are rusted to flip.

Hi Rob, cheers for that. My father in law is getting one of the guys in his workshop to do me up some.

No doubt I’ll be placing a few orders from you over the next few weeks. Waiting on a road worthy list from my mechanic.

Awesome website btw. You might be the man to help me with my wheel (amongst other) woes?

Welcome back to Gto uk mate, that’s going to be a great project.
I’m sure you will find us all helpful and signing up means you have access to all the technical side.
Cheers Dave
