Greetings from Swindon

Hi Everyone, I hope you all had great new year celebrations.

I have lurked around here for while as I’ve been researching the 3000GT / GTO as I’ve wanted one since I was about 15 years old (33 now).

I think I have found one but would like a little help if possible.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars/mitsubishi/3000gt/used-mitsubishi-3000gt-2dr-peterborough-fpa-201310169298524?logcode=p

Does anyone know anything about this car or the dealer, SY Motors in Peterborough? I’m not a distrusting person at all I would just like to go armed with the proper information. I have read the buyers guide, Thank you to the person who wrote it. I’m no stranger to fixing cars but these are very different beasts to what I’m used to.

It seems a very clean car, mostly original too which I’m looking for except the dump valve poking out the top of the engine bay which will have to go.

My membership money will be in the post once I’ve found someone who owns a chequebook as I don’t use paypal.

Regards

Andy

Hi Andy welcome to GTOUK

Don’t recognise the car but can tell you from the pictures that it is a GTO with a 3000gt rear garnish .

Easy to spot by the rear number plate enclosure , it has no washer jets on the front bumper and it has seat belt retainers on the rear seats.

Not sure how much this will sway you , but insurance wont be as cheap as a 3000GT

As for membership when your ready and have a car let me know and we can sort you out via paypal

Regards

HI CDMH,

Had a quote from Footman James £450 for 5000 miles which would go down to £350 for 4500 a year. not bad considering that Con*****.com cheapest quote was £700 with 10 years no claims and 5000 miles a year.

I was hoping to join anyway even if I don’t get the car.

I really would prefer a 3000GT but really haven’t seen that many, just people claiming it’s a 3000GT not realising theres a difference.

I was at Japfest (2013) I did come over and have a look at the cars, I was going to say hello but my missus dragged me away as she spotted a few FTO’s.

Welcome and hope that you find one you want

Welcome aboard and hope you find yourself a decent one----they are out there.

Hi,
Welcome, if you get a new insurance quote for a GTO import I would be interested to know how much more it would be, only out of interest and for future reference.

Hello and welcome dude

From the pictures looks like a reasonable base to start from depending on what you want out of it. Is there anything Inparticular you are looking for, or a particular year or features?

Oh yeah needs some tail pipes too.

Hi Bud, I’ve Just insured my GTO for £326 with Adrian Flux, got lots of silly quotes including one for over £3000 with Footman James? lol

Mine is only an N/A and I`m 42.

Use the missing tail pipes as a bargaining tool as the brackets that hold them on will be missing from the ends of the Exhaust and you wont be able to wed new ones on because of the corrosion…

The new system end for a 3000GT is £299 And the Tips are £55 each !!

I do how ever have some for less than that at work brand new

Cheers Rob

Hi and welcome. Has anyone tried classic insurance? Did my 320bhp supra last year for just of £200. Not done mine yet as it’s not running.

Hi gavin,

Thanks for pointing out the exhausts I didn’t even notice.

My ideal car would have to be a stock Mk.2 UK 3000GT maybe about 96 upwards and keep it stock but since looking at Evil Empire, I’m getting a little inspired.

However, If that fails I can find a 96 Mk.2 GTO twin turbo at the right price even if it’s a little beat up I have a few plans up my sleeve. I’ve already made a deal with my father in law (panel beater, sprayer for the last 40 years) to do a full engine out, doors off, panels off respray for not a lot of money (as long as I help) but he said he wants to do it matt black.

It all depends on what car I find, if I find a UK spec 3000GT then no mods but if I can’t find one then I’m going to mod a GTO instead.
Not really interested in HP gains I guess but if Evil E has his way then anythings possible so I hear.

I spotted a UK 3000GT at the GTODR website for 4K but I read somewhere that it’s probably not a good idea, can’t for the life of me remember where though.

Thanks for the replies.

No no no and no

Definitely not a good idea . Without getting drawn into too much debate there have been problems with that trader on a few forums

Craig

Don’t touch anything the GTO DR had anything to do with, just post up what you find we’re an honest bunch so we’ll tell you the truth. There have been some good club cars sold last year for silly money so keep an eye out on the forum, for example I bought a second TT MR for £1500 last year only needing probably £300 quids worth Of repair when really these are £4k cars all day long.

Thanks for the Info, I’ll stay away.

A 20 post limit really isn’t going to be enough, better get my membership fee sorted tomorrow.

Are there any other sites you guys use for finding cars?

I have only used the more common ones like Autotrader, car and classic and Gumtree, obviously EBay but I don’t really like the idea of Paypal getting a “cut” if you know what I mean.

I looked in the classified section and I really liked the white MR, such a bargain. Shame I didn’t jump earlier on the 97 3000GT either.

Pistonheads classifieds is the other one I use .

Doesn’t seem to be a huge amount for sale at the moment though

Craig

The day running lights are nice on that car.

I pay £300 fully comp for mk3 N/A GTO at 31. I doubt a TT would make it go up all that much either to be fair.

Welcome

Hi all,

Anyone heard of the GTO SV (Special Version)?

I’ve seen a reference to there being only 300 made, is this true? Do these versions even exist? or am I getting smoke blown up my ass?

Yes there was a special version I think they were grey, with a few extras.
