I’m Matt and I’ve been looking at getting a GTO for a couple of months now, I’ve been lurking this forum since I found it and learning information about these cars which from what I can tell seem to be very underrated.
I’m hoping to get one when my other car sells and will keep my eye out on here for a good one as the ones on eBay and autotrader seem to be either overpriced or to modded for my liking.
There are some lovely GTO’s on here makes me want one even more, will keep an eye out as I’m very picky with what I’d want, I’d want all the toys 4WS 6-speed and twin turbo with all the active spoilers etc. also in either blue white or bright red.
How easy are replacement parts for the GTO to find?
Welcome Matt. While it is good to know what you want bear in mind that it’s easier to find the car that has all of what you want than it is to find one in good condition. My advice would be to sacrifice some of your list if needs be to make sure you get a good reliable car. Check out the buyers guide. It is the bible when it comes to buying a GTO!! Good luck with the hunt!
Some parts are getting a little more difficult to source but in the main most things are easily got , which considering when the car went out of production is quite good .
Evil Empire one of our traders on here can get most bits you need , you woud also be surprised what can still be gotten through the dealerships too .
There are always some breakers knocking around too for that elusive tide you over part to get you mobile again
Oh and your best source of parts is either second hand parts on here or Evil Empire Performance. The owner lurks around here and is a good guy! Check out his website for an idea on prices and parts available. He also tends to stock loads of parts that he hasn’t got round to listing so if the parts you want aren’t on there give him a call or message on here. @GSXRKID is his forum name!
I thought that I might have sacrifice some things to get a good GTO as long as it’s manual and twin turbo im sure I’d be happy, im planning on having the car a while hopefully as I bike to work so wouldn’t need to use it for my commute just to sit in a carp ark and get scratched, did they stop producing the GTO’s with 4WS when the face lifted the car?
Origin must of read it wrong somewhere then. I have to seek my other car first can’t justify having 3 cars will be looking shortly hopefully so will keep and eye out of here. Having seen one in the flesh for around 5 years so will be keen to have a look at one in the flesh before I buy one.
Welcome aboard mate any pics of the Nissan we like to have a look your in the right place were all totally mad to be Gto owners good luck finding your Gto keep us posted
Will get some pictures up as soon as I’m free, maybe help sell the car it’s funny as when I was thinking that I wanted a fast 90’s Japanese car I never really thought of the GTO I always thought that Mitsubishi only made the FTO.
A lot of people tend to forget about it to be honest. Everyone wants a supra or rx7. Or there are the Scooby and Evo fans. I like having something a bit different. Definitely get pics of the Fairlady up!! I came here from Silvia’s!!
I agree they are not the most obvious choice out there, but I am driven most Jap performance cars and the gto is still a favourite and as mention they are very underrated.
As I said before I didn’t even really think about getting a GTO until a couple of months ago, I didn’t come straight from a Supra but have owned a NA manual, it was a very nice looking car but rather slow.
Quick question if I was to get a old shape GTO is it possible to put the new shape front bumper and lights? As I’ve been looking and think I prefer the look of the 97-99 style cars which are the MR I think.
It seems to be hard to find good examples of the later models asleep.
Speak to @GSXRKID he has a conversion kit I believe to put he 99 front end on an earlier car. I think it would be easier with a mk2 on car but sure it’s possible on a mk1! The MR cars are a lightweight version which came on several mk’s I believe. I think what you want is a 99 or mk4 front end!
It is more work to do the job on a MKI , you need new headlight buckets , slam panel on the front end , for the full look you will also require the MKII side skirts and 99 sail panels along with the 99 spoiler , there are then differences in wheel arch liners and under trays . It can be done and has more than a few times .MKII obviously requires less work as you can use the existing headlight buckets and slam panel also
