Hi new to the club

Hi all

my names mark, like so many had always wanted a gto since i was a youngster but back then couldn’t afford to buy one, but i brought my first gto at the weekend after seaching for a long time for the right one, went down a different route to most wasn’t looking for a car that was in perfect working order wanted one that i could have as a project and get to know the car by pulling it apart and rebuilding it (the best way in my opinion to understand how things work) but i dare say i will be picking a few brains somewhere along the line.

found this one at a breakers and he didn’t really want to break it so was a win win for me.

Welcome to the club

Welcome to the club… Wondering was this one with Greyham auto world?

There is a page you can upload a build thread to “projects and restorations” it’s great for tracking your own build and keeping a photo record

no this one was just a little yard just outside birmingham was advertised on ebay

Welcome along mate :+1:t3: the nut house awaits :eyes: car looks far too good for the scrappy

Welcome to the club mate, enjoy

Welcome to GTOUK,looks a good find. As mention its good to hear its been saved from being scrapped.

Good luck with the project

Cheers,
Neil

cosmetically the cars straight pretty much rust free the paint is not brilliant as it had been near a fire, the mechanical side of it is where the issues are both turbos are shot there was oil in the expansion bottle the gearbox doesn’t like selecting reverse gear

ahh i read that one when i saw it for sale , stood out being a local car

Craig

I think all of those problems are factory fitted :grinning::grinning::grinning:

Hey Markie

Welcome and again so glad to see another saved. Look forward to seeing her progress and the guys on here are super knowledgeable.

Welcome dude. Everyone here is nuts so you will have to be too! Where abouts are you from? You will have your work cut out for you but there is plenty of knowledge here and great bunch that are happy to help.

If you’re looking for some turbos I have three sets from a red gto I am hoping to save from the scrappy too. Must get the engine running now, the b/b is first though :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Terry :sunglasses:

im from kettering in northamptonshire maxx and i’ll let you know later on about the turbos terry need to finish getting the engine out and see what sort of condition it is in internally and then go from there as to what turbos i’m likely to be fitting, as i have a van and an fto i can drive round in for the mean while im in no rush to get her back on the road and can save up for bits

From a breaker in Craddle Heath?

He offered peanuts for mine then a few days later this one appeared on ebay !!

When I sent him a message he told me it ran fine, just a slight missfire !!

This seemed like a bit of a contradiction

Good luck with the strip and rebuild mate

yeah thats the one

on tick over it sounds fine just the usual deep rubble its when you rev it up and the boost kicks in when the noises start, he’s description of things that were wrong with it and then his diagnosis of what he thought was wrong was laughable i’ve been a plant mechanic for 20 odd years and i’ve seen and heard many things from machine operators that would make you chuckle and some of his guesses were just as good, but it will never top a young lady friend of mine trying to top up her engine oil through the dipstick tube lol
