i’m a newboy who is thinking of buying a twin turbo GTO/3000GT
There are 3 advertised on ebay by a guy in Matlock who tells me he specialises in them. No website and no ebay feedback so just wondered if he/they are on this forum or are known to any of you ?
Funnily enough I’ve just been looking at his eBay adverts, I’d be auctions, if you want to go see one of the cars and anyone is free to go with you I’m sure they would help. Make sure you read the buyers guide on the forum
I bought mine from matlock. There is another thread on here where someone else has and i recognised the house and the guy in the photo. Tbh i had a good buy a few small problems recently but nothing that they could have seen coming.
At a guess its them ( father and son) trying for the life of me to remember their names. I looked at the blue tt the other day on there.
Go and have a look in the other thread theres looked a good buy as well. The son is a mechanic / racing driver so would guess he’s done the belt changes etc. I took mine to be done anyway as i always do if i buy a used car. Tbh not sure of the level of his knowledge etc.
Just to stick my oar in really. Its not mentioned in the buyers guide so I thought I’d mention, just cos I had a bad experience. I’d really recommend taking a mirror on a stick, Rolson make them with little LEDs on, you can get them from M@plin or @mazon.
Shove it under the sills and have a look for rust or welds. If you feel like taking one of the crowbars with the really bent back end you could have a tap if the seller will let you. Solid or surface rusted metal won’t have a problem with a wee tap but if I’d tapped mine with a crowbar a big chunk of metal would have come away.
Its always something I advise buyers for the Lotuses I work on, to have a good push at the door carpets at the ends of the outriggers to see if there is flakiness in the sills. Ideally I’d have them pulling up the carpets before buying. Lots of hidden gremlins fore and aft of the back and front wheel arches.
Can’t hurt when it comes to negotiation time and could save a bundle of bother.
