Just wondering what you all pay for insurance? I am 25 with 8 years no claims and live in a town (Worthing) and yet I have managed to insure my car as a classic (with daily commute to a single place of work) for £143.56 a year with European breakdown cover included. All mods declared (and there are quite a few including 13T’s mapped to 430bhp). I am amazed you can get it so cheap. So come on people tell me what you pay and the vital details such as age, area, mods (declared), ncb, insurance company, extras etc. I insured my car through Footman James (a classic car specialist).
This may serve as a good database for people looking to buy and wondering what insurance will cost them!
I am 36 (37 next week), I live in Chippenham (although the car is in Bristol which doesn’t help the insurance). I have 3 points 13t setup declared, bodykits, lambo doors and loads of extra mods. I have 18 years no claim and the best quote was from the traders on our site, which was nice. I ended up with Adrian flux, footman james would not insure me at all. (mostly to do with the bodykit, etc) I pay about just under £350-400, I will check and update this.
24 (23 at time of insuring this year), live in Reading, 3 points (for speeding), two accidents (one fault, one not), 1 years NCB, no mods (I actually have no real mods). Insured with Marcus Study via Adrian Flux, £1100ish but they allow me to drive any car third party.
Hopefully it will drop when I turn the magic 25 and I lose my points and the accidents come off. My first year I paid £1300 with Admiral and I was 21, so that wasn’t too bad.
Well, at last, a breakthrough for me. I had posted some time back about the exorbitant cost of insurance premiums - like we all have.
I’m up for renewal very shortly, so yesterday I got on the case and contacted Greenlight, Adrian Flux, and A-Plan for some quotes.
I am currently with FJ, but I now believe that they don’t have my best interests in mind. They have quoted about the same for the next year as I’m currently paying, which is about £350 for a “Classic” policy.
All the quotes I received yesterday are better than this, although no doubt FJ will somehow take another look and come up with something a little more agreeable.
Adrian Flux - £256.96
Greenlight - £299.35
A-Plan - £146.57
A-Plan will do a “Classic” policy, and I’ll need to send them 6 photos of the car. I have declared an HKS twin mushroom air filter, and a set of Lenso Muse wheels. The car is a late '92 manual NA, and I’m limiting the mileage to 3000 this coming year. FJ covered me on a limited mileage of just 1500 miles, which really is tiny for the premium they charged.
I now live more out in the countryside, maybe that’s a benefit. Whilst the roads are not so congested, they can certainly be dangerous out this way, with idiots taking risks so they can get to their board meetings in time.
I am 62 years of age now, and maybe that’s another “bonus”. Any one looking to get a decent quote - or at least a competitive one - call A-Plan at Thatcham, and talk to Lee Haswell, or Stuart, on 01635 879 910.
Im 20, with 1 years ncb and the car is insured in Cambridge on private land. I’m with elephant and I’m paying £212 a month. My mum, uncle, and cousin are listed as second drivers which bought it down a lot.
Footman James wouldn’t touch mine a few years back with the engine mods as it was quite away over stock , seems they have eased off a bit now if yours is running 430hp
They didn’t seem to bothered about the engine mods to be honest. Maybe its the sales person you get. But I gave them a list and they asked for a percentage power increase so I said around 35% (close enough) and they seemed perfectly fine with the mods.
£750, 5000 per year, never had a fault accident, 10+ years no claims and i’m 34. @DAN2 how come it seems i’m getting my pants pulled down. I don’t even live in the ghetto, It’s only Royal Wootton Bassett
don’t you mean 134%??? They seem to always tell me that 450hp is over 100% power increase on stock, i guess they use a sum like 450 divide by 320 multiply answer by 100. = the percentage.
That what I’ve been told over the last 13 years by every insurer I’ve had a quote from.
Yeah 35% increase so 135% of total power. The power output of these cars seems to vary depending on where you look though. I went with 320 as it would give a smaller % increase. But mine is a 1994 mk1 (pop up lights) so not sure if standard is mk1 power or 1994 power… 280/320?? Anyone know for sure?
Did you declare bhp as otherwise id be worried about giving the insurers the wrong info. Your insurance seems very low for the policy with that level of power, thats all.
I told them it was 430bhp and they asked me what the estimated percentage increase over standard is. I do have a lot going for me on insurance though. I am a member of the institute of advanced motorists (not sure if that actually got me anything off with them but guessing it must have done), the car is kept in a locked, alarmed garage, its not an import and I am an engineer which I believe is one of the cheapest professions to insure.
