Insurance

Hey Guy’s,

I’m just wondering if I can cover my car using my home insurance if i SORN my car. I don’t see the point of shedding out for insurance if the car is not going to be driven for a few months & it will be in bits, so unlikely to be stolen… (touch wood).

Ewan

Bump.

Any other thoughts change insurance to third party fire and theft if it’s going to be SORN?

Ewan

Ewan,

The only people who can give you the EXACT answer, are your own Insurance Company.
Good advice is great but the real answer is the one to take.

Mark.

Have my own declared SORN for the winter months at the minute Ewan, just keeping the insurance on it though.

Dad had his motorbike stolen from a shed years ago and enquired about making a claim under the house insurance as it was off the road (pre SORN). It was a “no can do” I think for some reason like it wasn’t MOT’d or taxed or something like that. AS Mark says, best to check with insurer, no harm in asking.

You can get insurance to cover a vehicle whilst it’s off the road/garaged.
Best bet would be to phone around a few brokers and see what they can offer

Yeh, it’s best dealing with the insurance company, but I don’t like doing that  Anyway after they realised they sold the policy incorrectly, I’ve got it changed to a “laid up” policy. I know these are fat cars, but I never thought of it as laid

Ewan

mine is SORN, but I kept my insurance running just incase…
