Insured on a GTO TT also have a micra-can i drive 3rd party?

Hello all 8) , just a quickie, i have a TT insured with SKY, the policy allows me to drive another vehicle not belonging to me on a 3rd party only basis, now the problem is my father has a 1.3 micra (moan) that is NOT insured but IS taxed and tested, will i still be able to drive the micra on my own policy? :?

I have asked around but i get different views on the matter, some people have said i wont be able to as the micra is not insured by my father, others say that my own insurance will cover in the event of an accident but not obviously if it gets stolen while in my posession. Sorry if this has been asked before. :stuck_out_tongue:

any input would be appreciated.

ta.

You will only be able to drive other peoples car third party as long as the owner has an insurance policy on that vehicle,

That is the way it works as far as im aware .

Be careful otherwise you may be driving uninsured

Craig

That’s the way I’ve always understood it aswell Craig.

Steve

not how ive read it…
if you have 3rd party on other cars, then its irrelevant what they have…
Hence you can drive hire cars on your insurance, hence why you take your insurance cert…

only fire and theft would be on their insurance

as i understand it, the other car has to be insured for you to use it 3rd party.

I’d suggest you phone Sky and ask them. That way you know you have the right answer for your policy.

Mings Thoughts

  1. Phone your insurance company and ask them.
  2. I don’t think the fact that the owner of the car has no insurance of his own makes any difference. Your policy will say ‘may drive ANY OTHER CAR not owned by the policy hold so long as you have the owners permission.’ It does not say that that person has to have insurance.
  3. When you get a producer and take your docs to the police station the desk clerk will check the reg on the producer against the reg on the insurance and if it differs will check to see if it says may drive any other car - only on fully comp policies I believe - and if it does they will accept the production.
  4. I will check with my mate in traffic and ask him what he thinks.
  5. I have often drive uninsured cars in the past on my insurance. The slightly vague part for me is when you get out of it. Is it insured then? that part I don’t know and would only park it ‘off road’ when I wasn’t with it!!

The Micra doesn’t need to be insured elsewhere. It is covered for third party only under your “Driving of other cars benefit” on your policy. Obviously you have no fire or theft cover. Scoopy what are you doing !! driving of other cars excludes any vehicle owned or HIRED to you

My missus, Karen, used to run a brokers. She says that if, on a full comp policy, it bears the wording saying you can drive another car third party so long as it doesn’t belong to you means you can.

It’s not necessary for the other car to be insured.

I know you can’t always trust what is said in the media but I was watching Police Camara Action or Road Wars the other week and a driver claimed to be insured after he was pulled over.
The owner of the car hadn’t got insurance but the driver said he was allowed to drive any other car on 3rd party (policy with Direct Line).

Well the long and short of it was the police computer showed it as uninsured and they phoned Direct Line and they said he wasn’t covered and the car was impounded there and then.

If your not sure check with your insurance company because Police cars can now pick up that you are not insured just by following you and if they find you out the car WILL be impounded.
