Introduce myself

Hi All,

Hope everyone is good. I posted in this forum some time ago when I was on the hunt for a project car GTO, then disappeared, I get kind of impulsive on times and my partner usually has away of talking me round from doing stupid stuff!

My desire to have a GTO hasn’t changed, but my circumstances since I posted looking for a GTO have. Since then I unfortunately lost my uncle to cancer and am due to receive a significant bit of inheritance. Our priority is buying a house and with anything left over I’m looking at getting a GTO, partly as a car to enjoy during the summer, meet with friends etc. but also as a potential investment, so will be garage kept with minimal miles put on it.

To give a ball park figure I’m hoping to spend around £15-20k but that will obviously depend on a few variables with the house, stamp duty, fee’s etc. (And how much I can realistically get past the missus without her throwing a wobbly!)

I’ve been looking at importing options, keeping an eye on classic car sites, marketplace, ebay etc. to see what’s about and what quality i could be looking at for that sort of price.

If anyone has any advice regarding importing it would be much appreciated, as it seems quite daunting! Also, I’ve not found any for sale near me (South Wales) for me to test drive to actually experience what I could potentially be buying, but i’ll keep an eye on the usual places whilst waiting.

Cheers,

David

Hi all,

Just to update. Took a gamble and bought a 1991 on ebay. Car was in Aberdeen and me in Swansea, took a train up and drove the car back, engine didnt miss a beat to be fair. Car has been owned for last 18 years by the seller, he picked it up in a Japanese car auction in Liverpool back then, minimal miles put on each year and has been garage kept so body work is decent. MoT history is good. Cam belt and water pump changed end of last year.

He collected a few japanese cars over the years and had already sold a supra and mk2 GTO as he’s 85 and wanted to finally get rid of them.

Few bits that will need doing; speedometer is really temperamental so looking to refurbish or replace. Cv joints need replacing and its pulling to the right a bit, car is going in tomorrow to be looked at by my usual mechanic.

Pleased to have finally taken the plunge! (Am also in the Mrs pocket for quite a while!)
