JAE 2014 what was good and what was not

So to help us improve JAE next year, I would like some feed back on what was well done , and ideas on how to improve

1, I think the food on Friday worked, however Saturday was not so good

2, I like having a DJ, is it worth it?

3, The Marques is a must for me

4, Fancy dress I think we need more time and some motivation,

5, Mixing clubs or Joint events ? who where they all ?

Simon

My two cents.

From this year:

  • Food was fine, but it would be nice to have the variety we had the year before. Fry up each morning and BBQ each night although for only a couple of days is tiresome;
  • DJ is a big yes, even though I didn’t really join in (being ill and all) it is great to have the music and the atmosphere;
  • Marques is also a must, it didn’t really rain this year but if it does it gives people space to gather without being cramped;
  • I’m not a fan of fancy dress personally, but I know a lot of people enjoy it so I feel it should remain but as always is optional;
  • Mixing clubs was great fun, however where we place all our food and drink out on the side how do we stop them eating/drinking it as they haven’t contributed?
  • Sports day was good fun, and had some enjoyable and memorable moments, other things like this draw attention to the stand.

Future ideas:

  • We could do with designing a layout for the stand before everyone shows up, this would mean people would know where to park and put their tents rather than just guessing the then having to work around it all;
  • Not just JAE but in general, the trailer could use tidying up a little. We hide it away all the time when really it should be a billboard. Maybe new sign-age, a good clean and waterproofing would be an idea?
  • I know people complain I don’t wash my car when I turn up, so maybe the club could invest in some gear to make it easier so people are more likely too? I saw a guy with a pressure bottle and hose, would be useful for a quick wash.

With total japs for example who joined us, we will be asking them to bring their own punch if there joining us next year. I think more the merrier, a couple of them are now looking to purchase gtos.

i love the intersection with the public with the trophies (next year we could ad more engine bay etc). Really liked seeing the balloons everywhere.

next year would be nice to see something like a bouncy castle or bull ot the surfer board kinda idea. They Have worked well in the past.

I think my head on Saturday morning wasn’t good :laughing: :laughing:

Sorry… is that not what you meant :laughing:

Food - I think Friday was nice, but maybe Saturday needed to be done differently, we did deliberate what to do though for a long time I know Si, maybe next year we could look closer at one of those JAE catered meals you can order in as a Club, depending on cost - that would also give those concerned a break from cooking, cleaning - like we did with the chinese delivery at Birthday Bash.

Sports Day - Brilliant, it kept everyone together Saturday afternoon when normally people disperse around the ground and the marquee area is too quiet.

DJ - a definate for me, ditto the marquee.

Fancy Dress - we always participate, but I can take it or leave it really, but yes if we are having it the theme needs to be simple and decided earlier.

Mixing Clubs - Yes and No for me, I felt it lost a bit of the ‘GTOUK family feeling’ but accept it created activity, but we’ve never been short of that in my opinion anyway. As Steve Smith says, we have to ensure the situation doesn’t get abused.

I think the Event Shelter could have been put in a better location to get more use out of it as an offshot to the marquee, call me fuddy, but if it had been closer to the marquee, with the sides put on at night, I’d have preferred to sit in there for a natter when the rock music got a bit much for me later on :older_woman:

I personally missed having a couple of tables to eat at, balancing the plate on your knee wasn’t ideal, but I don’t expect the Club to spend money on that just for me, I’ll try and remember to take a tray next year :laughing:

I’ve had to think hard though to find any constructive critisism simply for feedback purposes because the weekend was EXCELLENT.

Hi Tracie,

We have a few extra tables etc, which I could bring along and im sure a few more fold up tables wont be a problem.

Hi,

I talked to total japs who joined us and they mention could they pop over again, I said I would talk to everyone but mentioned they had to bring the same amount of punch and their own beers and maybe even contribute and they were not against the idea.

Personally I think its good pr for the club and a couple of them might be buying gtos, if nothing else might be worth partnering with them for the jae events as we were really short on numbers. Totally understand your point but if we arrange it properly with visitors it could work.

Cheers,
Neil

I don’t think we were short on numbers, I think we had a good turn out. My big worry is that it starts to get too big, if you think organising it now is a pain imagine trying to co-ordinate Total-Japs as well, who as far as I can tell operate solely on Facebook.

I think we need to get out club 100% before we start trying to include others. I like them coming over for the music and chatting, but I think going in together could get messy.

Yeah I was talking to them about more of joining us for a party as they did not full on club merge. Also with the event both teams get points if you enter and win, so I was thinking more like the boat race Friday morning and an odd event like football if we are struggling.

Ah I see what you mean now, I thought you meant sharing a stand and cooking for them, etc.

Ah right, no just as it was really, I like being inviting and coming across as a real friendly club, but happy to go with what everyone else thinks. (but controlled as mentioned)

Wasn’t much I would change tbh .

Marquee
DJ

Both a must .

trailer , don’t go there :slight_smile: it does need tidying and we have some things in mind to sort that its just logistics of getting things done .

Parking and tents yep could do with a plan , only problem with this is everyear the marquee is in a slightly different position / orientation as is pitch width and length , even though we book the same size every year .

I liked the guys coming over on the evening a couple even bought crates of beer with them .

Food is something we can look at again and fine tune ,

Think there was 2 main problems

The catering side… Ie cooking and cleaning… Same people each day gets tiresome… But I understand the difficulty of making people do things. So it’s definitely complicated… I like the idea f getting food ordered in like birthday bash.

Second issue is general… Planning in advance… It let us down on the amount of people fancy dressing, it let us down on IKO events and let us down on the car competition…
This s probably the easiest to sort out… Plan JAE at least 6 weeks in advance and have all these decisions finalised and public.

Ok DJ should stay, marque should stay… We can’t have DJ without marquee anyways.

I like the idea of joint club IKO and 1 night party (not both nights as we loose the family feeling a little)

I’d quite like to talk with the FTO owners club regarding maybe them being next to us? The cars are very similar really and it would boost the Mitsubishi theme in our corner, the pitch opposit us was empty this year (aside from 1 lonely Toyota gt86) maybe a spot for FTOOC? … Just a thought as most Gto owners have had or want an fto too.

Only thing is FTOOC have a brilliant spot up by the entrance, I can’t see them giving that up to get penned in the corner with us.

Were they in a better spot I didn’t see them.

I believe they are on the left as you drive in, next to the Skylines and such. If so, they had the two cars made to look like the Lightning MacQueen from Cars.
