How did Ben get on?

James

■■■■, James!

We was robbed!

So we were taking 4 cars. FTO, GTO and 2 customers running their cars, including an Evo Engined FTO with a GT 40R on it!

Got there at 11.30, had to wait till nearly 3 to sign on.

We shut the workshop on saturday except for piciing up and dropping off and we worked on our cars from Friday night till sunday morning straight through!

First causalty was one of the customer cars- galant VR4, which now holds the stock engine power output record again (Vipec). That broke a xfr box, which we changed, and then it broke the rear diff!

Second was marks FTO. It has 10 inch wide drag slicks and a welded diff. Turned it as we got it off the trailer and fubared a track rod! Put it back on the trailer!

The EVO FTO ran well, but huge traction problems on road tyres so no decent times.

My car, well…

I forgot to re-attach the speedo sensor when i put the box back in. Launched it on the first run, but with no speedo sensor to turn the t/c and anti lag off i was limited to 5500rpm, so a 13 odd.

2nd run, i went straight round thinking id plug in the sensor in the lane. No, zero queue, so i had to turn it off and run without. Fine- just wheelspun a lot and went 11.42. Fine.

Went back round, queue was mega, so went back to the pits. Thought, well the fastest mitsubishi was in the 11s so i’ll take a bimble down and see if ive either won it, or if its worth running again. There is one more 1/4 before the end of the season, at shakespear where the track is flat and grip is better, and no point going balls out, breaking it and repeating this weeks madness just make the last race…

So i go down there and fastest mitsubishi is suitting on 11.422, so i’m like balls, mine is an 11.424! But hell, lets go! I know i can do a 10 on lo boost, so i will walk away with it. If i dont break it, it will win. Brillaint! But…

The time is now 4.02pm. The track shuts at 5 or 5.30, but the competion closes at 4!!! Gutted!

So i put it back on the trailer and went to go home. But then the Evo FTO lost his keys and we had to stay and search for hours. Turns out after the best part of an hour and a half they are in his boot!

Got back to the workshop with car transporters tools, etc etc etc at 9.30 last night, just dumped it all and went to bed.

Come in this morning and it looks like the battle of the Somme has gone on in here! How we can create so much mess is beyond me!

Ho hum. Shakespear in 2 weeks.

Cheers,

Ben.

Man alive!

You do know that when you run at Shakespeare you will get a 10.000 the way your luck is running.

Fingers crossed for good weather. Crikey I may even have a working road legal GTO by then to pootle along in.

James

I DID MAKE THIS TO BUT NO IDEA WHERE BEN WAS SET UP IN THE PADDOCK?
Well i never see Ben’s car run , (missedit i guess) but as i walked back round to the carpark side i see Del do 2 runs of 14 and 15 sec runs i think?
Dunno where he was parked either lol . Few quick little honda Civics though.
Oh well at least the rain held off.

ray

lol I didnt know you was there Ray! Ben was up by the drifting area.

Me & dan went up with dell and where parked behind the show & shine area. Dell did a few runs at the end of the day his quickest being a 13 but he was having real issues getting gears.

I took Dan, Pete, & myself to this event, we all said this was a really good day.

I would like to thank Ben for finding the fault, after meet, it had made it impossiable to access gears on the track.

The shifter cables to the box, are worn out.

Also the clutch has always felt very, very, heavy, & I have always had to fully depress it to get the gears. I have now learnt how to adjust it myself.
Clutch is so much better now.

However since the running I can only get from 3rd to 2nd gear, by slowing right down to a very slow speed.

I was not there to do any runs, but the car & the conditions seemed right,
we thought to do a sub 12.
I did for runs, the first was only to try & warm the trans up, as the car had been stopped for about 7 hrs
I not even bother getting times, Dan & Pete said I did a flat 13sec with me lossing time getting it in a gear.

my last run, there was no access to 2nd gear.

I only hope after my proublems, & my angergear, that the box will be ok, we will only know for sure once I get the parts from japan.

On the good side it’s going to be better than ever once it’s sorted

For about 50 miles, I had been running with a new c class AMG, &
a Skyline. Ask Dan & Pete about it

The Dan told me Skyline ran 12sec Flat.

We ran back with a gto, but I don’t think hes a club member yet.

Ps thanks for entering some of my aborted run times R
