Butler has contacted me to say that several members have had mail from LinkedIn. Posting this in Newbie as by the looks of things I need to renew, don’t have time right now.
I had no idea of this and am still not clear what is actually happening. I haven’t been on the forums in a while as I’ve been mobbed with non-GTO stuff. I’m working 20-hour days to deal with things right now. That said, I did buy 2 more GTOs!
It must be automatic. I gave it access to my address book.
Thing is, I got a mail saying something was reported as commercial spam, but when I logged in, it said the post was deleted. I intended when I saw this to talk to Dean-Mark Taylor and do something about it, but only once I’d rejoined GTO as a full member; god knows how long that will be, I am firefighting as I’ve taken on 3 new businesses, 2 new premises, about 5 car projects and am having the usual kerfuffle getting BT to provide me with internet access in even one of these areas…been waiting since December for a line to be installed in the main workshop.
My internet is pretty limited at the main warehouse where I am working from right now, I’m mainly doing car restorations so am not really hitting a computer often and in the evenings when I do get second from the kids I am busy dealing with my print & design clients. I’ve tried going right through my 435 clients on LinkedIn and still have no idea what the “link” is; I’ve not seen anything relating to GTO-UK and quite how the website can be connecting individually with members is beyond me.
I can’t understand how either website would allow these kind of connections. I will need more info before I can do anything about it I am afraid.
The only thing I can really think of is that people I have dealt with via email on here have had email addresses assigned via GTO and so instead of contacting, say, Butler direct on [email protected], its contacting him on butler@[email protected]. I’ve bought stuff off several people and talked to people to get or give advice via private message, GTO-UK has turned these into emails so they will have hit my address book.
Perhaps I can set a block on the auto generated addresses.
I apologise for any distress caused, but presumably LinkedIn is only really doing its job, trying to make connections for me with people I have in my address book. It just happens that these addresses are GTO-UK auto generated addresses and I am guessing, unless they are contacts already existing, I can’t see them unless they physically connect.
If anybody can post an example message they have received, then I’d be happy to do more but at present I am a bit in the dark as to what the issue is.
