Looking for a GTO

Hi folks, I’m turning 40 and have permission to shop for a GTO as I have always wanted one and it’s either that or sleeping with my secretary. My wife assures me that the GTO would be the cheaper option. I’m looking at eBay and auto trader and like most newbies I’m after good value and not too much trouble/restoration. I’m based in South Cheshire and need advice or pointing in the right direction. Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome dude!! I personally think the secretary would be cheaper lol

Best check out the buyers guide on here! Definately a few things to keep an eye out for on there

Usually if a club member is selling one it will have been better looked after than eBay or auto trader. Anything in the for sale section on here?

Sound advice. Which is mainly why I joined this forum. It looks like not many people are selling right now. But if anyone hears of anything please let me know. In the meantime Ill keep searching. Thanls

Hi,

Welcome to gtouk, do you have any ideas what gto you are after, colour, model, twin turbo or non turbo etc?

There are a few that maybe available that is not advertised, for example there is a good condition black mk1 twin turbo that I know of.

Cheers,
Neil.

Mark one twin turbo sounds great. Whereabouts is it? I know of one in Derby but the seller hasn’t answered my texts.

It’s a very nice motor, I was very tempted to get it before I found my timber green UK spec one.

Happy hunting, they are out there.

Andy

Hi,

The owner is in Northumberland, if your interested I can get her contact details and she can send you some photos/information etc.

Neil.

Welcome to GTOUK 8)

Good luck in your search for a car

Northumberland might be a bit of a trek for me. Going to check one out in Wigan later. Hopefully my search will be over.

hi matey good luck with your hunt, well looked after ones dont have to cost you money, simon

Ok found a couple. An old mk1 which is in half decent nick apart from the obligatory front seat damage and a bit clunky on the automatic box when cold. And a modified mk4 that’s pretty much mint. The mk4 looks far less of a classic which puts me off a bit and is about £1k more but I suspect it will give me far less trouble. Both are non turbo versions. Advice folks??? Please?

Do you have a link to any of the gtos, I would be very careful with buying an automatic with any gearbox problems.

Neil.

Mk4s are rarer to be honest

If you want a good mk1 you need to think about the the one Neil knows of. No not mine but the same with better looking wheels from what I remember.

Just search Mitsubishi GTO on eBay. Both are in Wigan.

Well I have gone and bought one. Mk1 twin turbo. Pikkies to follow…

Congratulations 8)

Look forward to seeing the pictures

Turbo’s are the one’s to have

You need to post up some pictures as a genuine Mk4 is about as rare as hens teeth as they only made them for 1 year 1999/2000 & if its only 1k more than an old Mk1 then either the Mk1 is very very expensive or the Mk4 is ridiculously cheap, more likely it will be a Mk3 at best, good luck anyway.

Julian.
