New GTO owner few issues

Hi just found this site, picked up my GTO on Tuesday. It’s an N/A Auto mk1. As with any 25 yr old car it has some issues. Rear aero spoiler doesn’t work. I can hear the relay click but doesn’t move. Also the cruise control doesn’t work. Any help on these appreciated.

I am looking forward to a good detailing session on my day off next week as she’s in need of a good clean!

Hi and welcome , looks a tidy motor .

Firstly you have done the best thing since buying the car in finding this site , they are a great bunch of people and extremely helpful

Ok firstly your Aero is the front one in place ? Or the motor and linkages at least as without these the system won’t work properly , if it is not lifting at all it may very we’ll be seized , you will need to strip it down and free off the guides inside .

Cruise control not working could be a couple of things , main culprit tends to be a split vac hose under the bonnet by the cruise control unit by the passenger side wing

I saw this advertised the other day and think it is my my cars sister lol x I was very tempted to buy it but refrained. Two grey gtos can sit together lol :smiley:

Thanks for the welcome, the front aero Is in place no idea if it’s actualy working though as can’t see! Any way of checking? I have a red aero light on the dash when driving.

I will have a look to see if anything is split, thanks for the advice.

I had cruise control issue, turns out there was a short rubber tube under cruise control servo that gone off. It is approx 1 to 2 inches long and is bent 90 degrees. Check that first.

Mine was same problem but nipple was broken so just replaced unit with second hand one

If the light is on on dash it’s in fault mode could be seized on front or back, mine was seized on back and also had electrical fault on front so fitted manual switch for rear and rebuilt that spoiler, look at my thread in projects.

Thanks again for all the helpful info, this seems a very active forum so I will get signed up.

My day off Tuesday I am going to give her a proper look over so will check the areas mentioned.

I bought the car from an older gentleman named iain near ipswitch. It was advertised on ebay. Be nice to find some history on the car
