Southampton - not too far from me I’m over near Andover. I use 10w40 in my TT cars. Is your MK3 a twin Turbo?

Check for rust just behind the front wheels, along the seals and just in front of the rear wheels too, most common spots to rust through, oil is a tricky one - everyone will use a different type based on their own judgement I use petronas 5000s 5w30 (buy it in 20L drums for around £80 as all my cars use it)

Check the service history for when the last services were done - engine oil, coolant, gearbox and transfer box oil, brake fluid, etc - if in doubt change it also check when the last cambelt and tensioner change was done - belt can last longer but tensioner is a 5 year change
