Hello and welcome

thanks, had the car a few weeks now… got a MR and had all the checks done no issues found so was all happy when I got it back from the shop…

got plans for her (she is called letty) just in the process of ordering a few k worth of parts and fitting but cant seem to get the right info hence joined the club, hopefully ill eventually repay with my own knowledge.

we are looking to fit xxr 18’’ on her but I really want the 9.75 rather than the 8.75 as the concave is more visable but told I need to find if they fit… so far I cant seem to figure it lol… im putting tein flex superstreets on so will be lowered but if someone could help me with the wheel issue id much appreiciate it?

will the 18x9.75 fit?
will I need to pull the fenders?

been reading 2 weeks straight now and still lost lol

Are you talking a width issue? I would guess depends on offset? I bought a set of oz super ts for mine off a supra. They have 265 tyres on the rear with no issues… would suggest you would need to check the correct offset for the gto though as this would determine where they sit on the actual hub.

I expect someone who knows more than me about this will be along soon though.

And welcome to the club

Hi Ashley welcome to the club

XXR currently do not make a wheel that fits the GTO or 3000GT without massive spacers, like 15mm+

I have had most of the wheels at my company to test fit over the last few weeks from the XXR importer and none of them fit without the use of hubcentric spacers and the importer and us both felt that was a NO NO on car as heavy as ours.
Not only that they all stuck out side the edge of the arch too…So MOT failure too

You will need to find a wheel that has curved spokes to miss the brake calipers…

There was a thread started on here a few weeks ago with wheels that people had found that fit.
There are not that many wheels that are a direct flt on to our cars as the calipers stick out so far from the hub they are bolted too.

Have a look at the wheels on my site to see what i mean about the spoke clearance and the hub offsets

www.evilempireperformance.co.uk and go to the wheels section at the bottom of the products list on the left hand side

I will be adding another loads of wheels that fit in the next few weeks as i start adding stuff to the site again

Also BC suspension has a much better ride that the Tein and also dont look like they have been on the Titanic after 12months of use on our roads…

If i can help you give me a call for a no obligation chat

Hi guys

thanks for the replies, im glad I have found a place that actually discuss their cars lol, seems some sites just don’t want to talk. I know newbies can be a pain, as im a member of bodybuilding/training forums and know what its like to be asked the same q a million times so really appreciate the replies.

rob - I have been scoping your website for a while now for parts so you will get to know me personally soon enough as I tend to jump both feet into things as I work away a lot so use the cash I would have used on nights out for gym and cars lol.

im gutted them wheels don’t fit… the aggression on them was lovley. I have seen wide arch replacement fenders for sale so im hoping to get them on think they are £400 for backs £350 for fronts so 750 all in all but not too bad.

I did consider spacers but still reading about them as from what I have read people seem to not like them and im not too sure why they are a problem (assuming because the down force of the car weight is not in the middle of a larger axil therefore increased force due to further pivot points) I really should be better with cars as im an engineer haha.

would the MR still be too much a no no for spacers ( sure I read its 130kg lighter?) the arch /MOT shouldn’t be a issue with the replacement fenders so just getting the fit.

please don’t think im ignoring the comments, im not… this is mainly a project car for me that is why im looking for soloutions as im not bothered about putting the cash into it, just wanted to get a certain look (wide arch, wide wheels…mainly rears)

I have had a engine check done so know the engine is fine…( that was a huge relief ) time to start my mission lol… to be honest im not a huge driver in terms of top speed as i need my licence for work, but i want to make a car that is more 0-100 super quick.

ill definatley be in contact rob as although the engine check was fine he did say hoses were not the best of condition and i want no issues so going to replace all of them, also was looking as the intercoolers you have for sale.

sorry for rabbiting , thanks again warren (Ashley is my other half, she set the username up for me but will be me typing 9/10.

Asking questions is all what this forum is about so ask away

But taking the advice when it is given is a must, making mistakes is all well enough when it doesn’t cost you thousands, money which most if us cant afford to waste these days, but these cars seem to have a appetite for consuming money

What XXR wheels was you after and i will see if i can find something similar that will fit without spacers for you.
Its not the spacers that is the problem, its the fact that the wheels will stick out past the arches which is a MOT no no now it seems…I am currently on a mission to find some cheaper wheels that will fit out cars

There are a lot of people who use this website who have a lot of knowledge ask anything and you will get a reply …

well as long as its not to chav the car up with lights underneath it and adding lots of stickers or bling …then you may struggle !!! lol

Wide arch kits are a whole different issue as you will need to find wheels that clear the calipers and yet are still wide enough to come out level with the edge of the wheel arch to look right

Call me when you get five mins and we can then have a chat and you can then post up your findings to start your build thread and gain glory and fame beyond your wildest dreams …or maybe not
if Carlos Van Dango is your roll model… :smirk:

Cheers Rob

thanks, yeah I will always take the advice from people who know… the wheels were the xxr 527, its the concave I like… when I was looking at buying the car I looked for some ideas and seen them on a wide kit 3, just so aggressive looking

The XXR 527 i have still at work and they don’t fit in the ET35 offset even with 10mm spacers they still clip the calipers on my test car, so will never fit and the ET20 is well hanging out of the arch !!

Like you love the look of them wheels, I will see what i can find for you similar

Cheers Rob

thanks rob, would the replacement wide arch fenders still have the et20 hanging over? sorry if my questions are silly , im still trying to get my head around the whole wheel offset thing lol.

something like these - http://www.amber-performance.co.uk/product.php?xProd=6814

thanks

That is a ten million dollar question as you need to see what fits with the new arches and there are very wide arch kitted cars in the UK for you to get info from

Maybe Gavin can help with that as his car has the same ones i think

How ever I can supply those to you no problem if you do wish to go ahead with them

Cheers Rob

thanks mate… well i will keep looking around and try get some pics of the type of kits im looking at, so if you can supply would be simpler for me… also you may know what kits they are as many of them are un-named on pics so hard to look for… i didn’t realise it was this hard to work out lol…

i just thought it would be buy a wide arch kit then use spacers to push wheels out… pulling my haor out over the last few weeks looking for stuff lol

If you gonna fit a wide arch kit this is the proper way to fill it all not with shitty spacers… that is so MR2 Ferrari kit, that will just kill wheel bearing faster than you can replace them

You need some nice 10" Wide Rims with the correct ET … the ones pictured below also fit inside the standard arches for you guys just reading this post and who want wide wheels !!

i the 1/4’’ a dig difference for these?

been trying to read on it tonight and got this… please do correct me if im off lol

  • the xxr 527 will not fit the callipers unless i go wide wheels
  • wide wheels poke out too much, so would need a wider arch
  • replacing the fenders, with 25mm front 40mm rear will cover them

i don’t understand why they wont fit then, lol… im so lost!

the xxr 527 the guy said best option (without arches ) were 18x8.75 et 35… but they just didn’t have the concave like the 9.75 , which he said would poke out … been trying to use a tape to measure but have no idea what im measuring

thanks…i really do appreciate the time taken

hi rob, I have been looking around and seems the wide fenders would mean moving the fuel cap ( this correct?) this in turn means its a massive pain lol… I did consider doing fronts only but that may well look poor. do you know if the fenders bugger the fuel cap

thanks

http://forum.gto.club/t/audi-tt-fuel-cap/37460/3

Have a read here @gavin_naish moved his fuel cap for wide fenders, fairly easy really

thanks for the link… unfortunately I haven’t acces to that page. I was considering just taking the cap door and hinge off before I install, make a patturn and then cut the new fenders and attatch the old door.

hi all,

so this is where I will be logging my build her name is letty, im fairly inexperienced with modifying exept when I was younger and done a few basics, had a few pipe dreams that got started but never complete. mainly due to cost as I was young when I did them.

so first a bit about me -

the user name is Ashley as I got the fiancée to sort it (hate computers) but im warren, lucky for me I have a very understanding partner and she is very much into this build too. im 27 and live in the Gateshead, tyne and wear. im a quality engineer, working mainly within oil and gas, building, repair and maintenance of oil rigs and pipelines. due to the nature of my work often work away so there will be periods of no updates at times. Ashley is a stay at home wife, sounds more leisurely than it is. she keeps me above water keeping the house, cooking my meals and dealing with all the paper work I get… responds to my emails, does my taxes, timesheets and payment stuff. also have a dog (malamute) called RIP meant to be OUR dog but to be honest he doesn’t do anything I say and is all for Ashley lol

we are both into a few other hobbies, we were personal trainers throughout uni and both still train. also both tattoo fanatics, if my money isn’t on the car its on tattoos - we joke on saying we refuse to die beige but wont be far off it soon both quite heavily tattoo up already -sleeves, back, chest, neck and that’s just Ashley haha

prev cars - in order

citroen xsara 98
Honda civic coupe 95
Honda civic 97
Honda del sol ( my half project car. only sold it few month back as I had it since I was 20)
RX8 231 07
BMW 320d 2009
Mercedes E220 13 (dads car but used as company car) still have it
now the gto.

this was meant to be a run around until I get the new car in jan time but seen the gto for sale and went for it, still be getting a new one in jan but mainly for the wifey as this is my baby. but narrowed the choices for jan to jag ftype, chevy camero, merc c63 … opinions welcome

the car -

-100,000 on the clock (much of it meant to be km)… im not too worried to be honest as it will all most likely get replaced at some point inc internals, new turbos, port and polish etc the works… this has been my ‘‘I want’’ car since I first saw one years ago so going to town on it.
-got a private reg on at the moment ‘‘XXX gto’’ but I sold it back to the dealer (now regretting it)
-its a MR version
-previous owner has resprayed it at some point ( sisters bf is a car sprayer and fitter, he says it has a few tell tail signs of a respray)

  • got 17’’ aftermarket wheels ( I was offered the 19" it came with but they were chrome …not my thing)

I had it to the tuners, and got my engine checked, asked for a full check, belts, leaks, turbos, pressure test… all good bar the water cap gets stuck and has a leak on a pipe, new jubilee clip sorted it but I will most likely change the hoses, when I get the new parts fitted.

the aim -

still struggling with ideas, and not much confirmed in my head but im going for aggressive wheels, filling some wide arches. taken me a few weeks to work out how, as im sure you guys know fitting wheels isn’t as easy as it is with a Honda on these but after much reading decided to get the cianci wide fenders, and then try the xxr527 in 18 x 9.75… me and the tuners had a chat today and said that if I get the arches first and we will see how they go on. if our math is correct they will lie 31mm farther out than the standard wheel, so may need spacers or diff offset to fit and fill the arches, clear calliper etc.

so that’s the wheels… suspension will be a full coil over set, still reading up but rob suggested the BC are better than the teins so will look at them. body will be wide arches, rear bumper lip, and hoping to do a modification on the bumper I have to make it similar to the 99, but with a bit of change.

will be getting resprayed in white, thinking carbon roof/pillars in black with a hint of red in badges, callipers etc.

engine will be to come as I haven’t enough research to even make a plan yet lol, but it will be a case of making it faster haha

questions -

  1. does anyone know if I can take the gen 2 bumper, cut off the strip between light and signals, replace the signals with 99 style? I know it would leave a gap from the old signals but ill refiber glass the bumper to fit.

ok that is a long read but I wont always be babbling lol

warren

tried starting a new but wont let me so start from here lol
