New member Swindon - and best place to get cambelt changed?

Hi, Mick here. I have a 91 GTO, red one which is pretty standard apart from stainless exhausts, 18" alloys and an aftermarket steering wheel. Always been a fan of GTOs and took me months of searching to find the right one (after getting the green light from Mrs J). If I’m not driving it then my favourite hobby at the moment is looking at it out of the window! It didnt have any service history or receipts for a cambelt change when I bought it, so I’d like to be on the safe side and get it changed asap. Any ideas on the best place to get cambelt/water pump changed in the Swindon/Chippenham area? Much appreciated.

Hi Mick,

Welcome Ito gtouk. am from Chippenham but I would also recommend euro-spec.

Neil.

Woo hoo! Another Swindon owner. Nice looking car. Welcome.
If you “must” find a garage in Swindon then the only one I trust is NMV Services in Faringdon. Mike the owner is a great guy and his work is top notch, Andy who works there loves his jap cars too.

Am I blind or has Andy seen pics of your car somewhere else? Either that or the site isn’t showing any pictures. Have you uploaded some pictures Mick?

Anyway, welcome, the weather is crap and the people on here are nuts   only kidding!!!

Terry :sunglasses:

Welcome to the club. Don’t think you can get better than the recommendations here as both these guys live local to you

Click his name! @just_cool.

Welcome to GTOUK matey. One of my hobbies looking at the GTO all the time.

Steve

Thanks everyone for the welcome and advice, I’ve been looking at the Eurospec website, looks like a great place and I’ll give them a ring to see how they are fixed. Need it done soon to put my mind at rest. I’ll get some decent pictures sorted, it’ll take me a while to suss out how to use GTO UK website cos I’m not much of a computer whizz.! MOT is due next week so a couple of jobs to do this weekend. New clockspring arrived this morning cos original was missing. It broke apparently when the previous owner fitted aftermarket steering wheel, so no horn. I’m guessing the clockspring wasn’t centralised when he fitted it and got crunched. Wasn’t keen on the wheel so I’m replacing that too. New track rod ends this week and in for the MOT, not sure about emissions, it’s 91 pre-cat regs I believe, but I have one in the boot. See how it goes.

Nice one, thanks. I’ve been looking at Eurospec, looks like a good day out! Time off is an issue at the moment so getting it done closer to home may be the option, I’ll have to weigh it up, cheers.

The guys there are often around at weekends so if you can leave the car then great. Even run you to the train station if you ask nice enough  courtesy car too I think!
