I’m Liam a 33 year old car enthusiast from Lincolnshire. I havw owned/modified 12 plus German cars but have always wanted to step into the world of JDM classics! I have a F11 BMW 530D Msport as my daily and I have just bought a new house with a huge double garage thats begging for another car to live in.
I have been browsing for a month or two and I have a current budget of 10K , I’m torn between picking up one that needs work and fixing it up as I go as I will not be dallying it or, saving up some more and looking out for a minter!
Hello Liam, and welcome to our Club and Forum.
You sound as though playing with spanners etc won’t faze you, so, with a decent sized garage at your disposal, it would be easy to say to you “buy a do-er upper”. Many can’t do that, but in your case, if it was me, I’d take a look at what’s out there. You have a pretty handsome budget which will most likely suffice to secure a well looked after example of these cars in any case.
If you are not currently a full member of GTOUK, you may well be prompted also by James, our Club Secretary. Once you’re signed up (about £20 per annum), you won’t regret it. Loads of advice from very knowledgeable members, as well as masses of info on here.
Start off with the Buyers Guide, if you haven’t researched these cars yet.
Good luck with your search, and when you’ve acquired one, post up on here and show us the car, if you’re happy to.
thanks for the reply! I have been doing ALOT of reading but cant beat first hand honest experience and advice! I have my heart set on a Red one but I will defiantly have a look into the membership sounds like it will only help.
Few different things depending on the year you want, with the mk1 you had the ecs and active areo, i know alot of cars dont have these working.
You have the rear steering, a few have removed it.
The lifter tap, but alot of cars already have the 3mm ones installed.
I know on mine i have some rust coming at the top on the front window, the sills which can be hidden from the side skirt and i also have it in the boot but you need to lift the rubber seal to see it.
I done quite a few miles in mine when it was on the road and never had any major issues, im currently trying to rebuild the engine but waiting for space at westfields (garage that knows these cars very well)
