Been having a browse through the forums for a while trying to decide whether I can afford to invest in a GTO/3000GT. So I thought I would introduce myself and ask a few questions off the people who know best!
As much as I love the GTO’s, the cost of repairs and maintenance worries me! Realistically how much money do you put into your cars to maintain/fix a year? (I know its hard to put a figure on it but I’m trying to work out how much money I need to have in reserve!)
I’m estimating about 5k to purchase, 1k modifying the interior (new leather upholstery). This would probably leave me with about 3/4k spare cash that I’m expecting to use to cover unexpected events and servicing over 2 years or so. Is that likely to be reasonable?
I was planning to save and buy an Audi S3 (or similar) for about 10/11k before realising I might as well spend the money on a car I’ve wanted to drive since I was a teenager!
I think that’s down to getting the good car to start with, a lot of the club cars have already been through the big spends, I think that budget would easily cover the money you need to run one for those 2 years when purchasing the right car.
Soundscape your talking the right sorts of money… Best always think of spending more than thinking they cost nothing.
I bought my P reg 3000gt for £5k and it was in great condition.
GTOs tend to go a bit cheaper.
3000gts genuinely suffer from rusting to bits! As they are not galvanised like the GTOs.
Make sure you read the buyers guide on here as its invaluable.

It’s the harsh uk winters with salty roads that do them in, Japan has lovely mild winters, sunshine and daisys, children skipping and playing in the fields.
