Paul Walker Tribute at Santa Pod - 18/01/2014

Can we have a show of hands for who is going to this event and anyone who wants to go as I believe there are a number of spare tickets going.

We would have liked to go but need 4 tickets plus 2 children if they need tickets :frowning:

1 ticket covers 3 kids

We were going as 4 adults and possibly 2 children Gav in 2 cars but the tickets had sold out :-/

I’m looking to go, but thought there’s no way I’d get a ticket, so my plan was to travel to somewhere reasonably close to the airfield road crossroads near Hinwick, park up, get a chair and my camcorder out, and Bob’s your uncle
My son will be joining me (he runs a Prodrive WRX STI), and we thought it would be fitting to make an effort with this event.
I travel to Sweden annually to witness the “Powermeet” in Vasteras, which involves American iron from the very early years to contemporay. We see upwards of 10,000 cars.
Now I reckon the Paul Walker Tribute will be similar, (subject to weather) and I would expect everything and anything Jap will be circling, and my camcorder will be doing overtime.

Anyone who has spare (2) tickets could they please let me know.

Thanks,

Mike

Damn impressive turnout. I have never seen Santa Pod so packed - great organization. I hope you guys got out ok. Nice to meet you all and Dave if you had followed me I would have shown you a short cut!

James

Unbelievably, I got in for free  Pulled up at one of the gate kiosks and asked the fella if he had any spare tickets I could buy, and he gave me one for free.

I thought the weather might have put people off, but thankfully not, although no track action until about 1pm.

So, a little stroll around the back and up the end to see what was there…

The GTR is one of the all time contemporay greats. Apart from the fabled performance of these cars, it’s that dark, brooding styling that does it for me…
Couple of nice Z28s, out of shot, in front of it.
Staying on the American theme for a moment…

and…

That’s a Dodge Superbee, very rare, very expensive, classic early 70’s muscle.

Allegedly Paul Walker drove this little gem for the first F & F…

And a pity they didn’t run two of these up the track…

Then a couple of true Brits…

Though I think this BGT blown lump is OTT for me…(but what a build!)

I got meself a sticker for my old gal, and here are some others to remind us of what it was all about…

Next, a brace of GTOs owned by a group of fellas who state they are neither forum members of UK or ■■, but instead are frequenters of “Pistonpoppers”.

Plus, some of our very own members’ cars?..well I know 2 of them…

And finally, my favourite rebuild/renovation of the day…

http://s36.photobucket.com/user/michaelglanfield/media/P1060629_zps2561d621.jpg.htmlhttp://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e27/michaelglanfield/P1060629_zps2561d621.jpg

Pity at the time I couldn’t get a shot of the whole vehicle because there were too many people by it. This is the bay of a Peugeot 209 GTI. In their day, they were the hottest hatch going…
This total renovation was just fabulous.

A great day, and I was pleased to be part of it.

Mike

Good pictures Mike

Thanks for posting them up 8) Something very cool about the old American muscle car era

Craig

Amazing you got in and for free. Nice pictures Mike.

I think there is some argument about whether the Eclipse was actually in the film or not. A scribbled piece of paper in the windscreen is hardly proof. The guy was charging people £5 to sit in the car and didn’t really look like he was up for a debate about it!

Two of those gorgeous Lambos did go up the strip. The orange was allegedly in Furious 6 - I don’t remember an orange Lambo in it so will have to watch it again.

The owner of the black GTO is Curd and he is on here and ■■. The Maroon one is Dave’s and the blue 3000GT is Steve’s. You missed Gavin’s red one and Ivan’s black one but you got my orange one.

A great collection of amazing machines on the day.

James

Yeah agree with Jaitch some good pic’s there Mike. But all the same at least you took some pics even though missed Gavins which was a row up from Steve’s.

Was the burgundy beauty yours Dave? Sorry, should have made myself known to you, but there were a few peeps gathered around and I didn’t want to bother anyone really.
Pity I missed the Lambos, we left just after 2pm and were feeling it a bit. I must be getting old, I used to spend the whole day on that spectator bank, come rain, wind or sunshine.
Yes James, the big fella standing behind the Eclipse looked a wide boy if ever I saw one. I’m not one for cool fashion, but the jeans and wide pinstripe jacket were warning enough for me
The “non forum” group reckon that the DVLA web only shows circa 125 roadworthy GTOs in the UK out there, if that’s accurate, then at least 10% of them turned up on Saturday.
Would have taken loads more pics, but me camera battery was exhausted and I didn’t bring my spare one.

Mike

The black gto int the middle of the pic with 3 in is Curds isnt it?

Highlight for me was obviously speaking to James, really love seeing people, take their own route with their cars and doing what works for them, that in itself is an inspiration.

And watching Ivan ■■■■ himself and pull over when he thought he blown his engine up   which we were all wetting ourselves over as it sparked the whole td05 v td04 debate as he claimed I had no mechanical sympathy for my car then his broke lol then only realising it was just a pipe that had blown off, phew. He caught up with us later on, but at the time we were all gutted. We pulled over and waited for Dave to catch up and lost him, then me and Steve went off and I lost Steve on a straight road so we all ended up driving on our own for a bit. … Good times we all found each other just in time to get in.

It is
