Right of passage

After 28 years of watching my son grow and develop into adulthood, and along the way experience all the highs and lows of parenthood, today he has exchanged contracts on his first “pad”.
It seems like only yesterday that I was watching him on the school rugby pitch, or cheering him on in his athletics events, and now he’ll be missing for most (though not all, I’m sure) of our family meals.
Never quite realised how I’d take this, and didn’t expect to be sad about it, but one thing’s for sure, I’m really proud of what he’s achieved.

Ta for sharing this with me,

Mike

Great news Mike,

I remember you telling me about the difficulties and it must be really difficult for everyone to get on the first rung of the property ladder these days. At least the perseverance has paid off.

Congrats

As much as you want your kids to get on it still come as a disappointment when they leave
home… I have two children, a girl and a boy who both got married and moved in with me and the
wife with their partners… fortunately we have a big’ish house with 5 bedrooms so wasn’t an issue
of over crowding… They have all left and got their own places now and like you a feeling of
sadness when they leave is something I won’t forget.

Congrats To ya lad Mike, he’s got his head screwed on as my mum would say, you should be proud of him it’s hard for first timers right now.

I know exactly how you feel. My 22 year boy has just left home and I really miss having him around the house… The killer was watching him load all his “stuff” out of his bedroom.
But at the same time, there is a great sense of pride - he’s grown up now and is capable of being totally independent of me. I must have got something right…

Damn shame your single again Pat , never mind you will soon find another partner

Seriously cant even see that far ahead my lads nearly 2 , must be hard being a parent when your kids move out , i think as kids we never appreciated how hard it must have been for our parents

Mike i know how that feels, when my lad announced that he was buying his first flat it was a shock even though i was half expecting it, then it turns out that he’d bought a flat directly next door overlooking our place so it wasnt so bad he even comes around for breakfast and dinner a lot so its not so bad in fact one of the reasons we quit spain was that we were missing the little ■■■■ so much
