Second car insurance

Hi everyone.

I have seen a 3000GT that has caught my eye and I have just found and registered on this forum to find out about them before I go look at it.

Regarding insurance, I currently have a Seat Alhambra, my wife a Citroen C3 and somewhere along the way we got our insurance mixed up so my policy is for her car and hers for mine. Both are insured with Churchill, with the main drivers named correctly.

I pay £320 with 9 years NCD for the C3 that she drives.
I pay £680 with 4 years NCD for the Alhambra that I drive.
(the 9 years NCD is mine [acutally is more like 20+years but irrelevant]).

Now, how do I go about getting the 3000GT as a second car weekend runabout?

Do I get any NCD on it, or do I have to start at 0%?

An on-line quote with Churchill entering all my details (inc. 9years NCD) is £488 which is fine but I’ve read elsewhere that I can’t do this and it’s not valid.

Both my Churchill policies are due for renewal next week and next month so I can shop around for them all.

Any advice?
Thanks.

i had to have 0% on my second car but some insurance companys let you have it twice but both cars have to be with them. after all you can only drive one at a time

You have two policies up for renewal and you’re looking to start another. Insurance brokers will be falling over themselves to get your business; you can get full no claims discount on all 3 cars,
I run 3 policies and they think its Christmas when I ring for a quote, just don’t accept there first offer

Try speaking to Sky insurance - they keep sending me bumf about insuring all my other cars with them (I don’t even have any othe bloody cars!!) But they came good for me with my insurance…

Ok, thanks for the speedy response, I’ll give Sky a call.

I dont know if Sky dont like me or what, i have rung them 3 times now for 3 different quotes, my GTO, my Astra work van & Dianes Megane Scenic, they are miles away from other quotes i have had, even with the club discount :frowning:

Julian.

I was the same I had no no claims on a second car but sky sort of honered my no claims on the gto from my daily driver insured with direct line

So got 5 years on both now but its not actually 5 years ncd on the gto its just discounted the same.

Incidently I’ve always been insured with Direct line for my other cars and they matched the quote that sky gave me But they wanted a tracker fitting so went with sky

Admiral allowed me to use my NCB on my 306 DTurbo and my 3000GT at the same time.

I did Dianes insurance tonight, £302 renewal quote with Direct Line, £192 with Sheila`s Wheels, basically the same cover, Moral, whats good for one is not always good for another

Julian.

It always pays to ring around. Insurance companies (every type) rely on people not checking their renewals, to increase their profits.

Example - 2 years ago my home/contents was £20, last year it was £30, this year the renewal is £40. My home hasn’t increased by 100% in value, and my contents haven’t increased by 100% either.

They all want you to just accept the renewal as acceptible, and carry on paying the automatic direct debits.

Get the yellow book out, and phone around!!!

Sky came good for my second car runaround  Thats three cars my household has with them and to be fair they did state that and took it into consideration, plus allowing no claims to be used on both vehicles

Sky got my NCD honoured on the second car, having shifted it all onto the GTO. Having said that, insurers that allow that to happen seem to be a complete rip-off in the first place, so you don’t realistically see your NCD copied across. Obviously nothing to do with Sky.

A-Plan, £420 Fully comp, no no-claims (but see orig. post), Cat1, garaged, HKS air filter declared, high risk area.
GTO N/A with 3000GT decals.

Thanks all you guys & GTOUK, saved my membership fee many times over already!

(I rang Churchill and they wanted £1,100)
