Sky

I would stay away from Sky Insurance, I cancelled my policy within 48 hours, they said they would be charging me their original profit and the adminstration costs for the cancellation, what it amounted to was of a policy of £341 they wanted to keep over a £100.

I have yet to get any kind of a refund from the at all, all I can say is that sky is to be avoided like the plague.

Why did you cancel John?

I did cancel because my original company came through with a good price, I understand that I would be responsible for some costs, but not over £100, and after 8 weeks I still dont have the refund

This was my experience with Sky from a few years back - they were also arsey with the no claims paperwork - aswell as being non professional with me and my subsequent insurers. Personally I wouldn’t go back with them if you paid me.

Its only when you cancel or make a claim you find out how good or fair a company is.

I hope you get you’re money back soon.

Colin.

I had a similar experience with my GFs policy with a company that rhymes with “adrain clucks”. They didn’t stick to the agreed premium and she cancelled and they started saying she couldn’t get a full refund and administration charges would be applied.

In the end I wrote to their customer relations department, pointed out I was using my 14 day cooling off period and if she didn’t get a full refund immediately I’d take it to the insurance ombudsman. Needless to say the money was refunded within a few days.

Don’t take any crap - you have 14 days to change your mind and should get a full refund. Threaten with the ombudsman in a letter if you don’t get anywhere.

Thanks, does the 14 day cooling off period
apply to insurance?
If it does then the only thing they can charge you for is the number of days that you were insured? In my case about 3 days.

Cheers

Yes, all policys have it these days. Take them up on it and as said before threaten use of the ombudsman

Correct - and I may be wrong but I don’t think you even need to cover the time at risk. It should be a FULL refund - that’s what we got.

I have received notification from Sky today that my credit card account was credited a couple of weeks ago with the majority of the premium that I originally paid, I am happy with the amount of the refund. I do not have my statement yet showing this credit, but I have no doubt that it is so.

Sky also offered an explanation why they processed the policy first in order to cancel, their explanation seems to justify their actions.

Sky also forfeited their commission/profit on this transaction.

I would like to conclude in saying my original post was written in haste, and it appears now it was not justified, and I would like to withdraw my negative statement regarding Sky.

Cheers

John
