Both of those worked for me. It’s not all smileys, as there were others in that thread I could see.
It was this specific one.

Support for ~200 more emoji has been added.
Unicode emoji characters on mobile phone keyboards are now replaced with emoji images so they can be seen on all devices and browsers.

Just checked the original offending post and the change has fixed it.

I had noticed this too on good old internet explorer. I will take your word for it that it is fixed.

There isn’t Mac in the world that will run the software that I use at work. Overpriced junk if you ask me. Modern and flashy yes. Powerful and useful no!
