So Tell Me:- Why should I pay for a Full Membership

OK All: what am I going to get for my subscription Payment to become a Fully paid up member… other than I can sell things when I only want to buy things at the moment…

Do I get anything free … window sticker? free entry? Free anything… come on guys sell it to me… I can do a lot with the membership money on ebay. Like buy a Turbo timer, a T-Shirt, a Rabbit for the wife

So come on …give it to me… sell it baby sell it

You get to be all warm in the knowledge that your money is contributing towards the running of this forum. The forum requires hosting and bandwidth, both of which cost money. There is also the main site with it’s FAQs and other useful stuff that needs hosting/bandwidth.

Then, away from computers, there’s the events. Places like JAE actually charge for the area the club uses. This isn’t paid by the individuals when they pay on the gate, that is merely for access to the event, the actual space on the club pitch that you park on is paid for by GTOUK. Also, at events like JAE you will find a GTOUK gazebo or 6, a fancy BBQ or 2 running most of the day, cooking food for everyone. This is washed down with drinks, both soft and alcoholic, all whilst listening to the radio/CDs on the stereo unit. To keep the kids happy whilst all this is going on, there is usually a TV with playstation running in the corner of the Gazebo. So, what does your money buy? All the above, from the pitch, gazebos, BBQs, gas, lighting, generator, TV, stereo, food, drink, booze and the transport for all this!!!

So that’s what your money is spent on (aswell as other things like a 4 figure sum to stock up on Kormex transmission parts for the GTO/GT, as nowhere in the UK carries a stock of these).

What do you get for your money? Well, everything at JAE is at your disposal. Members get free food and drink at the events, use of the club facilities, and a discount on advace tickets bought through the club. If this isn’t enough to float your boat, then there’s also the discounts on club merchandise (hats, polo shirts, jackets, etc.), a discount on the CD manual price, and also dealer discounts (Amber Performance, The ECU Doctor, Westfields, WOrldwide Motors and Powell Performance I think offer discounts for full members). Then there is the Mitsu dealerships. The Grimsby one gives 10% discount on all parts for GTOUK members, as do many others. Just ask when ordering your parts.

So, what else would anyone want for £30 a year?

Steve,

PS, You also get a GTOUK car sticker and a membership card 8)

Steve (Homer) Summed up all the benefits well “Cracking Value For Money” I would say, not to mention the fact that I have had far more that the cost of my subs back in discounts alone.

A VERY satisfied member

Steve

the discount on my samco kit was worth the membership fee alone

I think i can saftley say this membership fee has saved me a few grand this year alone, by getting to know the right people and getting some excellent discount on all what i’ve purchase.
Great club,a one off in my books

stick that in your pipe and smoke it

To judge the value of the club to yourself just go back and read your own posts regarding car problems. Do a rough calculation as to how many hours you spent doing the work yourself  (after gaining the info from this site) then apply your local mechanic hourly rate.
You will then feel sheepish about this post  8)

You get all the benefits people have already posted but above all you will get the feeling of belonging to a great club.

I have been visiting a couple of car forums of late regarding my new runaround and while the questions i have asked have been answered politely ( most times) the overall feel of the site is not as friendly as this one.

You only had to see the GTOUK stand layout at jae, the best there by far.

Regards

Craig.

go on pay your money its well worth it

Its not what you get for becoming a full member its what you can give to the club.

You ask for help and people are happy to respond so why not look at it as your part for helping the club is paying to become a full member.

I’ve been a member since day 1 of the club and have no problem renewing every year

If I was claiming some form of incapacity benefit or were a single parent on Jobseekers Allowance or just couldn’t be bothered to get out of 'kin bed in the morning, I could see your point.

If you go to work and earn a wage and like GTOs you join a club, pay a membership fee and enjoy it …

If you’re looking for a free school meal, or somebody to hold your hand as you wander through life, you really need the Department of Social Security … I pay into that club as well …

Thanks to people who PAY ! … GTOUK exists …

Dead right … you shouldn’t have to pay anything … A UB40 gets you 50% off at Pizza Hut, as well …

Where’s me Benefit Card …

best wishes

ps if u have to ask how much something is then u cant afford it

I think we should follow the way of some of the other clubs (the EVO one for example) and only allow 20 posts to non members, and put a stop to the freeloaders.

Nobody should have to “sell” you on joining, if you have a GTO and you want to belong to this forum, pay your dues.

John

I’m not yet a fully paid up member … but thanks to being able to view and participate on these forums it has made my mind up to fork out the 30 notes …

In my mind a worthy investment indeed !!!

Just your advice alone is probally worth it …

I’m so happy to own a GTO so i’m happy to join such a great club like this

(mmm to much a*se licking i think ?!?! )

Anyhow expect the Chq from me soon !!!

Tony, it’s EXACTLY what I’m saying … things cost money … nothing’s free and if we don’t pay our bit, it won’t be there any more…
I have no problem with open access to this site. If it serves to attract new owners and club members, that’s fine. It’s a friendly group and if you were thinking of buying a GTO you get to see the good the bad and the ugly and the help advice and assistance there is, here.
As to open audience participation, I’m not sure that’s a good thing. As the original post said … Tell me why I should join’ … £20/30/40 is a good night out or a decent meal for two… If I can have it for nothing why should I pay ?
That’s a mindset thing … cars drive the same whether they have tax or insurance, the telly still works whether you have a licence or not, why bother ? The total cost doesn’t change but I’m now paying for me and those who can’t be bothered … Tax, NI, indirect taxes … apparently I’m now working for the Government until June 3rd every year and then I get to keep the rest …
I have the club CD … if I was built that way, I could have asked to borrow one and copy it … Never considered it … I bought one
If we didn’t have people who are motivated by ‘how can I get somebody else to pay so I don’t have to’ … perhaps we’d all be paying a bit less tax
All down to how you’re built … no longer bothers me … I got used to supporting my family and a few additional hangers on, years ago …
cheers
jim
