It pissed it down in the morning and the track was wet. Once it dried up i got the gto out and hit a problem with the clutch switch for the flat shift. The vibration would make it cut in an out the ign cut.
Got round that and started setting up my l/c to the track. Had to lend mark my wheels for the fto since he couldnt put anything down and we really had to run the fto.
Got my wheels back and was dialing in the launch. Got it set up perfect- and went for it. And broke the gearbox! 12.3 best one for me, but a couple of awesome launches.
The FTO we were really pleased with. Bear in mind that it was started for the first time last thursday morning at 2am. It was on the dyno still at 7 am on saturday when we should have left at 6! We put it back together in the pitlane at elvington by using the eurospec portable workshop (van of dreams), zippie ties and even a ratchet strap! (Our solid engine mounts were delivered to us at TOTB on saturday, but they were the wrong size. Since we’d taken out our normal mounts we had to make them fit using something i think is termed ‘in field mechanics’!)
It ran a 13.24 and beat Rich’s time by a tenth.
So yeah we had a great weekend!
Thanks as always for everyone who came down to watch and to our resident Pit Crew teams- it means a lot to us that you come out and help us at these events. 8)
Bad luck Ben with the GTO. I know you are going to do your nine real soon - you just make sure I am there please. I am glad to see you have stripped out the weight and I am liking your holy rearend!
Good work with the FTO. You guys are really making a name for yourselves now.
Ben someones replaced your rear bumper with a cheese grater
What does cutting those holes in the back do? You got a rear mounted oil cooler or something?
its is for air to flow more easily
To make air flow more easily through the rear bumper :?
Am i missing something here. Why does air need to go through the rear bumper? i thought it was better to have air go over and round your car for downforce. surely air going underneath creates lift?
In theory the rear bumper is acting like a parachute. Cutting holes in lets the air flow through supposidly stopping this effect. Was a great weekend. Some amazing machines there. Sorry to ear of your troubles ben.
Yeah. thats why we did it. The rear bumper is not totally sealed from the underside of the car, therefore it does work like a big parachute.
By taking out the rear arch liners and then cutting huge holes in it the air that gets in there can come straight out again.
Anyone got a video of my last launch? I wouldnt mind seeing that. 7000rpm, full anti lag, 20psi of boost at stand still and side step! It went like a mofo till i tried to get 2nd!
Gearbox is leaving on monday, approx lead time is 16 weeks. Id send it this week but i dont want it sitting in a courier depot all weekend getting lost.
In the meantime i’ll get the one thats in it repaired and go again. This time with drag slicks.
Rich Blew his bottom end out, but he had a good ol natter with mark.
