Yet again to the rescue -
Was having some vibration issues with moderate braking last night and slight steering wobble that was getting annoying
Was in the Southend area so on the off chance I called Rob and asked if he could offer some advice on what could be wrong - was a bit late in the evening so i wasnt holding out too much - but he was still working at the unit so i popped down.
Having a good look the nearside suspension top mount looked a bit loose on the inside although the actual mount was solid on the chassis
Fortunately Rob had a spare and after letting me take the leg out indeed the bearing carrier had broken off the mount! Bit of changing later and within an hour of arriving the car was back together and spot on! I really cant ask for any better service than that! 
FYI this is what the top mount looked like after removal :
For those that dont know, these should be in ONE piece - you can see whene it failed around the bearing so the strut was just being held in position by the weight of the car… eap!
