Web site access

I’ve finally managed to connect! First time in nearly two days.
I was beginning to think the site was down. I’d been having intermittent trouble (“site or domain unavailable”) for some weeks but this was a total lock-out.
I tried Opera, Firefox and IE. I tried using the laptop. Nothing worked. I started thinking perhaps the website had changed a protocol and my router firewall was blocking it. But now it’s fine.
No problems accessing anything else, BTW.
Any ideas, anyone?

Could have been a routing problem from you ISP?

Without it actually happening now it will be hard to work out what was wrong.

Mark

Not much use, but no problems this end Rob…

Ok. Thanks, guys.

It’s still happening and there’s a pattern to it.
I’ve just managed to connect; first time since Tuesday evening.
It’s the same every week. Lose connection Monday or Tuesday, get it back Thursday or Friday.
Weird.
Any ideas?

It’s the Fonz virus, when the week-end comes it’s happy days.

Mark.

I’ve had no problems at all this week Rob… not much help to you I know, but I don’t think the problem is this end.

I cant say exactly when but about a week ago I tried logging on in the early hours of the morning
having been logged on only a hour or so before and the site seemed to be down or at least all I
got was the white screen saying unable to find… bla bla bla

A few hours later I logged on again ok and have had not trouble since but wondered if the host
server had been having some work done on it and may be something has been changed that’s
caused your problem now

Was it a Sunday morning?

Server does some stuff about 4am’ish sometimes doesn’t come back for about 30 mins.

Mark

I cant remember but it could easily have been

Well, that broke the pattern I thought I’d spotted; connection lasted all of 2 hours last Friday then nothing until now.
I have no problem with any other site, including ‘rival’ GTO forums.
I’m getting seriously peeved.

Next time it breaks, try running a trace to the server and post the results - we’ll see where it stops.

I think there is definitely a problem, I have had access problems on and off for weeks now and it’s only this site.

Cleared cache and all that jazz as well.

Gav

Connection lasted just over an hour that time.

Quick, Ian, remind me how to do that, before it drops out again.

in a dos window

Tracert gtouk.com>c:\gtoukcom.txt

this will create a file call gtouk.txt on your c: drive

change gtouk.com to whatever url you use I would also try the others

gtouk.org.uk
gtouk.co.uk

So, it dropped again.
I could connect via GTOUK.com which gave:

Tracing route to gtouk.com [66.150.161.141] over a maximum of 30 hops:

but not the other two, which gave identical traces:

I normally connect, using SpeedDial in Opera, to the forum index at GTOUK.org.uk.
Does it tell you anything?
