I have a 1991 GTO Twin Turbo. The car has had the engine rebuilt back in 2009 but previous owner stopped driving it and was put in storage for 13 years. I acquired the car in 2022 and was a crank no start.
I managed to find the issue which was the ECU (causing the car to spark on only 3 cylinders).
I have since put in a new ECU and car now fires up. I’ve not had it running any longer than 10-15 seconds as the car has been sitting for so long.
I’ve had the timing belt cover off, although the belt itself is not cracked. I would like to have it replaced alongside tensioner and water pump.
I’m based in Wolverhampton, UK
Is there recommendations to any garage that can carry out the work. Ideally parts and fitting. How much will the job cost roughly?
Try simon at Performance Autoworks, not too far from you, they are GTO specialists. Currently have my TT in with them, they just did my cambelt and water pump, as well as a bunch of other things.
Budget for between £500 and £1000 for the job including parts. Labour is probably 4-6 hours and then the rest for parts will vary depending on if oem or aftermarket parts are used (if you dare go that route.)
ONLY take it to somewhere reputable/familiar with these cars and/or who have access to the correct documentation procedure for setting and torquing everything as it should be done.
