Sound reasoning Bren, rest assured the ‘Silver Machine’ will be
at her best.
I am even researching the best way to get her off
the line, I’m looking at Tyre Pressures, RPM, Rev’s to change at…etc.
Any advice from you straight line guy’s would be appreciated.
BenH you seem to be the man for this?
Thanks Brendan for making that decision, it’s always a tough one and with all the will in the world we’d fill the track each month with every car we could.
Having a standard car there is very valid, as any car does when it ages it changes and that’s represented well by a considered owner having some fun, a much better indication of the real world situation than a test-engineer ranting the motor to death.
I look forward to seeing you all there, any problems I’ll keep checking back in, other wise it looks all good.
Just a thought for those who are attending, on the day we’ll be issuing forms for you to fill out with a spec list of your car. If you want to save some time and/or hovering about scrounging a pen and perching on your bonnet, you could always print it out at home with a power/torque figure indicating whether it’s estimated or not.
All mods that is, over standard with the exact year and model of car so I can match them up at home.
Disappointed but of course I accept Brendan’s decision.
I just hope all those chosen actually make it and pass the noise limit test - then give a brilliant demo for the club.
Just a little note from us on the progress of Adams car, we have 3 men working 15 hour days at the moment to get her ready for monday, there is alot to do i admit but i built the engine this evening and it is ready to be mounted onto the gearbox and back in and on its wheels tommorow, then we are left with making manifolds fitting new turbo’s etc and running her in which will only take a couple of hours, the plan is to iron out any problems and fully map her sat night and sunday to be ready for our drive up on monday morning.
I understand the decision made but see it as a bit of a let down for us if all the effort we are putting in is not used in anger as i beleive it is most important to show the jap crowd how quick the GTO’s are and can be , i am not saying that Adams will be the quickest at the moment but it will take some beating on its first outing.
Hopefully if all goes to plan we will see you monday if only to watch and eat burgers.
Thurday?? i never knew that, this gives us plenty of time to get her running really good, the plan was all setup for sunday night but if its thursday then there should be no problems (exept for some sleepy eyed men)
Brendan, not an easy decision I’m sure. Thanks for the chance to prove the nitrous/NA combo!
Bryn, I assume we need to fetch our own helmets for this? Also, are there any facilities on site to wash the 150 miles of crap off the cars before the photographer gets busy? Finally, are spectators welcome as passengers in our cars, and/or in their own vehicles (parked off track)?
Mark (Nemesis), any chance we could borrow your camera mounts to get some in car footage of the day for the website/newsletter? Are you coming along to support, maybe fetch it with you and set-up the camera?

Yes I plan on being there (providing I pick up my new car before then).
I will bring my mounts up and 3 camcorders plus my little bullet cams, we could attach these to the front bumper for some low level high speed shots.
No need for helmets, unless you feel like you want one… Having done double the speed limit perched in the space where a Pulsar passenger seat used to be, in freezing fog with about eighty feet visability I can assure you nobody will comment if you wear a lid. If it gives you that little bit of extra confidence or you’ve never done this sort of thing before it can be a bit daunting, so bring 'em along if you want.
Just for the record though, a helmet is not required by us or Bruntingthorpe. You will be signing a disclaimer on the day, so it’s up to you.
There is a tap available before we head out onto the track, so bring a bucket and sponge and you’ll be fine.
Passengers are welcome, within reason, if a coach turns up we’re in trouble, all cars except those taking part will have to be left at the gate, albeit inside and perfectly safe that is. As you’ll see on the day, sometimes there are juggernauts practicing roll over training, motorbikes doing 200mph and Bentleys getting sideways… So the less people the better I’m afraid for safety reasons, while we’re still allowed to run this sort of event before the nanny state says stop, we’ll try and keep it as clean as possible.
Good news is, I have just fitted the restrictors in the exhaust, a BIG up to Power And Performance (Powerflow) in Honningham.
collected them 2 days after emailing a drawing of the silencer.
Bad news tho … there is a noticable dip in the performance because of it
It’s a price you have to pay I guess
Martyn…if you read this… polish my car for me
Since you polished the spoiler it makes the rest of it look bad

Hi JC I made-up some exhaust inserts to use if I need to for the noise limitations, on Hu’s advise I used Brillo pads as sound deadening and now my car sounds like a sleeping kitten  As you say there is a big difference in tune, mines a load richer with them in
Mark, just do what the rallying boys used to do,
stick Brillo pads up the exhaust, held in with wire,
pass the test, and take 'em out!
well im just a happy a magazine is finally willing to feature gto’s it really gets me mad when you open the pages and there just full of evo’s and scoobies. not so much as a pic at event never mind a feature.
Glad we can be of service… If we’re backwards in coming forwards sometimes all you have to do is shout. For future reference, you can always contact us if something is going that you think we might be interested in.
There’s no need to be shy (cough)
Oh, if it pisses it down. We get wet… There will be a gazebo there and I’m bringing up my old pikey wagon which has got a five square meter awning on the side… But that still ain’t very big. This is hopefully the view you’ll get on Thursday… (complete with pikey wagon)
