Jtuner Magazine thrash invite
Sounds like a plan Adam.

Another thing to remember, is that the cars will be featured in a 14 page photo shoot. We need to make sure the cars are in decent nick, so GTOs don’t look scruffy and/or cheap to potential buyers .

Steve
Steve,
Already working on this
Can’t have it looking scruffy for the pics
I was going to put it into the body shop today, but they can’t guarentee it will be finished by next weds for thurs, so it will have to wait.
I have replace my cracked sill today though, and the whole car will be polished and shiney

For anyone who doesn’t know what I have done to mine, there is a link to a thread about my car here…http://www.gtouk.org.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12128&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=fmic
Although I have since fitted bigger turbochargers

Good job I sprayed it at the weekend then
So, looking at the people who can really make it, we have:

Homer - MK2 NA with nitrous

Hukent - MK1 NA

Button Monkey - MK1 TT modded (not sure by how much?)

Roadkill - MK1 TT modded

DriveRob - MK1 TT lightly modded (just a boost controller right Rob?)

J@mes - MK1 3000GT standard

msassoon - MK1 SC modded (without a doubt :))

That leaves us one short, unless Mark and Jaitch want the last one. Is this about right?
Sorry if I am biased, but we need a good range, and I believe Mark’s is an example of the most extreme mods that we can find for a TT that is available. We have two NAs, one standard TT GTO, one standard 3000GT and two modded TTs at what level? We need to look at this and provide the last spaces to the best mix. Mine is the last, and I although biased, it is the only Supercharged car available at this time.

Thoughts please.
I already said I could make this. I have been drag racing 5 times this year so will be slightly miffed if I am not in the 8! This is a performance event for a performance based magazine for members of GTOUK. To be honest I can’t see why we have an issue with trying to give a good mix of pretty cars and fast cars and slow cars etc. I would have thought readers of JTuner would be interested in performance vs modability. Standard cars performance are fully documented and I would expect JTuner to list this in anycase.

If it’s left to us to decide amoungst ourselves within this thread who goes and who doesnt then nothing will be decided … and it may turn into a bicking contest … which Im sure no-one wants.
Adam

It’s already started…

Sure, kerbed alloys and rusty arches can look bad… But I don’t think you could ever brand a GTO/GT as looking cheap… Part of the appeal eh?

I suggest we list all of the cars in a poll that wish to attend and vote on it. (maybe a seperate poll for 1st & 2nd place reserve).

J@mes as for your post about bottomless pits  was is required? - I think not!

Other people with standard and lightly modded cars have made lots of effort to get to tracks accross the country to have a go regardless of cost and distance - or the result of breaking them. To me, those people deserve to have first shot at flying the GTO flag as it is something that they have pursued for sometime, not just when they have a chance of getting in a mag.

This doesn’t affect me as my car is out of the running due to the Db’s so it is not even worth me rushing to get it finished. - But I do want to see a good mix of cars flying the GTOUK flag!

Mark

James, just to answer one of your points;
Fantastic! We need everything from standard to fully modified… So is that number one on the list? If so, add yourselves as you go along…
Whatever is done to pick 8 cars, I would suggest it needs doing sooner rather than later. I for one have made sure I am free from Sunday until Thursday next week to fit and tune the nitrous kit, and to tidy up the engine bay and sound install. If I’m not needed, then I would prefer to know before the weekend!

I’m not sure a vote would work, as the forum can only let people have one vote from a list. Maybe Vaughan could make a final choice as GTOUK events coordinator?

Steve

As someone who hadnt even read the thread till tonight and as Club chairman I’m more than willing to give the vote on who goes. As some said in an earlier post a broad spread across the board is the only way to work this.

Let me know if you want me to decide.

Brendan

My View is either we use the 1/4 records what we have built, up or we allow people who have put something back in to the club

Organised and event etc

helped with the running of the club

Lets reward those that have made the club a better place

Brendan,
I think it’s a good idea.
We need one person to make a decision.
Someone who is in a position to do so, and is not directly involved in going.

As Chairman, I think it is best if you, personally, make the choice.

After all, it is GTOUK we are representing.

I suggest we need 8 runners, with 2 reserves in case of problems with any of the 8 in the run up to next Thursday.

We need a decision on this, and fast, as people could be taking time off work, spending time and effort, and might not actually be chosen to run.

My view is we need a decision on this by 5pm Friday, so that the selected runners have all weekend to get their cars ready for a big photoshoot.

Marty

Brendan,
You get my vote too. But I think by the end of today would be better.

So to who ever get’s a chance to do this good luck and give your car hell! :stuck_out_tongue:
Hopefully I will get up there to see the action. - Mr Beales, can I come with you?

Mark

I’m backing Brendan as well. He knows most people, and will make a fair judgement.

yeh i think its fair to let Brendan make the decision. 8)

I agree. All hail Brendan!

Yep, if the club chairman can’t make the best decision for GTOUK, then we’d be royally screwed .

*Mark Beales-Heavily Modified GTO TT

ButtonMonkey-Modified GTO TT

Marty(Roadkill)-Modified GTO TT

Jaitch-Modified GTO TT

J@mes-Standard 3000GT

Msassoons’s Supercharged N/A(Stef Driving)

Homer Lawtey-GTO N/A

Hukent-GTO N/A

DriveRob-GTO TT

TripleA (Adam)Modified GTO TT

Subject to make the new manifolds for the new turbos / install the new engine /map the engine. Then there’s the run in period plus a few other things that need tweeking before it can go on a track. *

Ok, this was always going to be very difficult and no matter what decision I made two people are going to be disappointed, so I split this into categories rather than personalities. Modded, Standard, And N/A as I feel this was the only safe way to do it.

With the greater amount of people applying from the TT side it is inevitable that the two disappointed people will come from that side.

Starting with the N/A’s, I have included all three members for the following reasons. I feel Marc Sassoon’s car would have been an obvious choice being only one of two supercharged cars within the club. Homer gets the second vote being the only car of the ten that will be running with nitrous and Hugh Kent being the third with a standard N/A, which will give us a true comparison.

I feel Mark Beales John Clarke, Marty Kitchen and James Hewitt should represent the modified TT community.

As a bench mark I think it would be good to see a standard car in there for comparisons, very difficult choice this but decided to go for James for the following reason. James has been working overtime organising the JAE event almost single handed and as such it is a nice way for the club to say thank you.

Adams car is off the road with no guarantee of being back on the road in time and on its first run out would be disappointing if it failed whilst taking the place of another who could have gone. I also feel I need to apologise to Rob who for no good reason other than lack of spaces finds himself on the reserve list along with Adam.

I would therefore suggest that Adam and Rob are put on the reserve list if for any reason any of the above is unable to go. I’m sorry Adam & Rob; please don’t think that this is personal because if it was you would both be included. I’m just looking at things from a sensible point of view.

Brendan

Great, thanks for that Brendan. And I am not just saying that because my car is in

Not a problem Bren - if I was the chairman Id have probobly done the same thing as you!

If someone drops out then that’ll give me something to contine working towards - otherwise I’ll be over SCR in a few weeks and see what it can do !

Good luck to all concerned.

Adam

Thanks for making the difficult decision for us Brendan. 8)

I’m very pleased to be one of the 8 and will be busy making sure the car looks it’s best and behaves itself for next Thursday

From the looks of it there is a good healthy spread of GTO’s.
Looking forward to it.
