Logging Cables

All

I will have some ECU plugs tomorrow (all being well and they being the ones I asked for) Once I have these I’ll be able to make the cables up and ship them out for early next week.

The cost for each one will be a whole £3.50 which includes postage.

I’ll post tomorrow once I have the ECU plugs and get in touch with everyone by PM with payment details etc.

Please add me to your list dave.
PC and Palm would be great.

Many Thanks,
Steve

All

I have had the ECU plugs in today and guess what, they dont fit :x

They are the right shape / pins etc but the pitch is out by 0.5mm so they do not fit with the crimps in. I am sorting this out with the supplier to see if we can get something right but until this is sorted I can only do the cables with spades on.

Can I ask all still interested in a cable with spades for now to PM me.

Thanks
Dave

I guess they aren’t the same as the ECU ones then… Have you tried TYCO/AMP that is where I sourced the E-manage and ECU Connectors from, never tried for the Diagnostic port connector…

Did you manage to get the part number? need any help in sourcing it?

Out of interest which chip are you using?
I went for the MAX233, needed fewer external components…

JC

I tried Tyco for the plugs and they gave me a part number etc. I have some of these and it looks the same but the pin spacing is just slightly out so it wont fit. The shape etc is the same and looks ok. It even goes in a bit but then stops. Any assistance in the part numbers etc would be great. I’ll email over the info I have so far.

As for the cable spec, the one I use is very basic and does no use a chip, just a resistor and diode. I’ll email a spec over for you. This works in every case as well so can only see the need for the chip to boost the output signal.

Shall we take this ofline and deal over email etc as I cna attach bits etc. Once we get it sorted we can post up here again. I also have some ideas and bits (555’s etc) for the ABS and a bit to swap between palm and PC.

Dave

Yeah sure, lets take it offline, I opted for the Max chip because I managed to get them for free

OK, I built a 555 timer circuit… Cct diagram… I don’t have one… I just used what I had lying around… I intend to use it to drive a relay that connects the ECU pin to ground AFTER the car is running this should put the ECU int DIAG but not the disable the ABS.

JC

To anyone interested,

Myself and John (Button Monkey) have spoken re the ABS situation and logging cables. I am happy to say that with Johns help I now have a working cable which does not dissable the ABS. This works by delaying putting the ECU into diagnostic mode by 20seconds (enough time to start the car) from the time the ignition is switched on. This delay can be changed depending on personal preference.

We are currently looking at the diagnostic plug problem as well so hopefully there might be some good news on that in the future.

Once we have more details on the ECU plug (if we can get it or not) then I’ll be offering the new type cables for sale. (For those who had the basic type from me I will discount the new one provided you return the old one)

Current status is I am still looking for ECU plugs which fit.

Although I am doing the following cables

Basic cable which disables ABS £3.50

Cable which does NOT disable ABS £7 (This uses a switch on the D shell to turn the cable on/off so it can be left plugged in at all times)

They all have new crimps which fit really well for the ECU plug so dont use the spade which some people had problems with.

also for an extra £1 I will put a CD in with logging software for both PC and PALM

Sounds good, please keep me posted on the availability of the ECU plug.

Thanks

John

will your cables work with a sony Clie (peg th-55)

If so let me know when you sort the ecu plug problem and I will have one!!

Also where can I obtain the software needed?

Yes they will work with either the Palm or Laptop, not sure if there will be a switch and adaptor or two cables…

Do a search for MMCD logging software, it’s free

JC

great!

Situation is so far,

I have done several cables for people now and the ones I am now doing have a little switch on so they can be turned off so you can leave the cable connected at all times and also when logging have ABS working. This then does not make the ECU plugs so importaint, I am still trying to find a supply of them but no luck so far. I got very close but not close enough.

As for software MMCD is free and look on the link here to check if you PDS is compatible.

Dave

Thanks for all your hard work so far.

Please keep us posted

Just to clarify this cable will work with any GTO? If not which models? If it does work with all models please put me down for one of the new ones. (with the power switch and ABS reset)

Please contact me at [email protected] to arrange payment Thanks!

Just to clear things up, the cables will only work with Mk1 OBD1 ports. If its down by your right foot next to the fuse board then it should be ok.

They will work with IPAQ but I have no OBD1 software for these nor do not know of any. I have some OBD11 but if you have a mk1 car it wont work.

The software I know the cables work with are MMCD and Palmnstein for PALM type PC’s and TMO and Tunerstein for PC’s.

I have an IPAQ as well but have nothing to make this work with the software. So you will either need a Palm or PC.

Sorry

I have a mk2 GTO do you have or know where I can get a cable for logging my car?

I’ll have my other PC running tomorrow which has links to several sites where you can get software etc for OBD11 (mk2). I’ll post it here then.
