Membership figures

As far as the committee is concerned, when MAS posts as himself, he is a club member, and NOT a Sumiyaka owner. I personally have no doubts about his ability to seperate the two.

Marks post echo the views of the committee. I’d like to to thank all those who made supportive and positive comments over both these threads, on both sides of the “argument”, but have to agree with Mark. If you can’t afford to be a club member, thanks for your contributions to this point. If you want to make a difference, volunteer to help out (but this can and does involve actually driving to places), or turn up at the AGM and make your point. Or, alternatively, don’t leave it until the last second to complain about something that has been on the books for nearly 12 months.

Oh, and Mark is right by the way… in the 6 years I’ve helped to run the club, I haven’t seen ONE returned form with a offer to stand for a position. I can only assume that you are happy with those who run the club on a daily basis…?

Now I’m confused I thought MAS as you put it was part of the committee soooo he thinks hes himself… oh whatever :? but who said anything about not being able to afford to be a member?

Just for Martyn, nothing personal of course. I was asked by the COMMITTEE to write the ■■■■■■ post.
Now, this is me as a club member, just so it doesn’t confuse you too much.

me.

Thanks Mark that’s much clearer

I was referring to this, as it implies he is only interested on a financial basis. An implication I know that Mark would not like.

Is it only me that finds this thread funny  Its £40 for turds sake!

before i renew i have got a serious question though, can i park with you guys on a big event in an Astra VXR?

P.S cheque is in post!

cheers Ant

What? it definitely says £30 on my renewal form. in which case it just got even funnier cos you just paid £10 too much lol

Can I ask a question…

Was the issue of reviewing with a possible rise of future club membership fees announced that it
was to be discussed at last years AGM on the forum and before it was put forward and voted on
at last years AGM ?

Or did that come under other issues ?

if it had would it have made any differance to the outcome ?

Yes it was on the agenda and the committee proposed a £5 increase and the floor increased this to £10 it was then voted on a in last years mins but the increase was delayed by one year for existing members but increase instantly for new members

The problem we have now is that we have a membership cost that puts of the chavs who buy 1k motors that everyone was worried about [/quote]

I paid a little over £1k for my car which is currently in great condition. I am thankfull that your offensive post was not the first impression i got from this club or I would not even consider paying for full membership. ( my jar is filling up even as i type.)

I would think that large constitution changes such as membership costs should ideally be voted on by all members, the technology is right in front of us. Can you imagine the general election decided by only those who could afford to travel across the country to cast a vote?

Sorry if people feel im talking out of place.

Ok, I’m not trying to start a row with someone who isnt a member of the club but I think your talking out of place because you havent even been on here long enough to know me, how I talk or type things or the reasoning behind my comment- so dont be so touchy

Back when the vote was taken to up the cost of membership is was for a number of reasons, one of which being to put off the people who had bought cars at the cheap end of the market just for a laugh and where coming on here and asking stupid questions, carrying out halfords mods or being post ■■■■■■, hence my 1k chav owner comment.

You say you have got a great condition car for a little over 1k, well done, I havent seen your particular car so I cant comment but what I can say is the times that people buy these cars that cheap and the vehicles dont have underlying problems are very very rare.

Thanks Simon… that makes it a little clearer to me…

But I must ask and not necessarily of you Simon… But if the club had originally decided that a
£5 rise in the club fees is all that was needed to keep the club and its forum running smoothly…
then am I to assume that the extra £5 on top of that was to cover the extra cost of keeping the
benefits the cub provides at events at a standard that wouldn’t deteriorate ?

The issue is not the extra £10 that many of you are belittling… its what the £10 is being spent on
If it cost us all £10 more a year for the good of the club and to keep the club and its forum
running smoothly then I don’t see any one of us ever making an issue of it… But if some of that
is just to help cover the extra cost of free booze then why should all of us be made to pay for it…

I don’t drink and haven’t done for the past 40 years… but I smoke like a trooper… If I attend one
of these events will there be a couple of packets of fags for me to enjoy in place of the booze I
wouldn’t be drinking… and even more so what if next years membership fee went up yet again
just to cover those that only smoke… would those that are enjoying all the benefits now the club
provides and are clearly put out by the cost of their entertainment coming under question be so
willing to pay the extra just to keep me and others like me in fags for any events we attend ?

When times are hard we all have to make cutbacks and if we want to keep our club up and
running dig into our pockets and give a little more… But it seems those that have posted a reply
against their benefits be questioned are quite happy to see the club loose some of its long term
members rather than accept a cutback in what they receive for free from the club.

Personally, I like just about all of us agree that £10 isn’t a lot even if all the extra £10’s add up
to 100’s and then 1,000’s and think its still worth it to stay a member even if some are being
selfish and still expect a large sum of our membership fees should be given to them for their own
entertainment… In a few days time this whole topic and discussion will become dead, but you
can’t blame anyone for voicing their opinion before this years AGM is over and it’s to late to say
anything for another year

I think that if you cant afford the money to join the club, which is recouped tenfold in advice and savings on parts. Then in all fairness you cant afford to run a GTO, well not for too long…till it breaks down maybe?
We all know they are old cars and are going to need replacement parts quite often.
Also I might add that if you managed to come to a meet then that is an added bonus.

Well said Alan,

but be careful your moaning status will become as high as mine and you will become a social outcast and in a round about way asked to leave

We dont get free booze ffs

Where has that myth come from , the last few years jae you want booze you take it , soft drinks tea coffee etc provided but that helps with future members as they can potentially have a drink while chatting to people , the food we payed for in our tickets .

The agm there was a free bar but as usual it got abused not by the regulars but by people having stupid drinks

We are not drinking away membership money at events if some of you guys went to them you may actually see that .

Tbh if its that much off an issue to people then move on , will be a shame to loose some longstanding people but its 10 poxy quid ffs

Craig

vote via internet, hell no have all the slackers that dont want to attend any meets or partisipate in any way dictating what go,s on no thanks if you want to vote get off your arse and get to redding and do it like the rest of us otherwise shut it .

when i bought my car i didnt have a clue about them but i found this club online , and got load of help and info of things to look for if i was going to have the car ! i went back to garage armed with a list of things i wanted doing , ie… cambelt , tensioners , waterpump , front disks and pads etc etc , the garage ■■■■ themselves when they saw how much it was going to cost so as id sent my membership money off i got a great deal from Rob for all the parts ( Theres one lifetimes membership fee saving ) Then i needed a clutch , went to someone  in ermmm stoke on trent  but he was ok and did me a good deal on changing my clutch , arranged me being picked up off the hard shoulder on M6 after clutch gave up , accomodation , food and beer , ( yet another lifetimes membership fee saving ) … since then various other deals and bargains have come along , and ive made some really good mates from this club … The savings are there when you need them so £10 increase is bugger all .

Apparently all little people have big chips on their shoulders

ARHHHHH makes you feel all warm inside doesn’t it
